Yandex disk is a cloud service that allows you to store any of your files on Yandex servers. You can exchange file links with any of your friends or at work. The service is built on the principle of synchronization. Synchronization occurs on all devices and all changes are synchronized. Thus, no matter what device you work on, all your changes will automatically be reflected on other devices (computer, laptop, tablet or phone) where Yandex Disk is installed and the same account is used to log in.
Yandex Drive features
At the moment, Yandex upon registration offers free 10 GB of disk space. This volume can be increased to 20 GB if you invite 10 of your friends to the service (512 MB for each) and they will accept the invitation and register. If this amount is not enough for you, Yandex suggests expanding it to a maximum of 1 TB for an additional monthly fee. Prices for today are as follows:
- additional 10 GB for 30 rubles per month;
- 100 GB disk capacity for 150 rubles;
- the amount of 1 TB for 900 rubles per month;
You can work with the disk either through a special program that you need to download and install on your computer or through the web interface. If you will work with the program, then keep in mind that on your computer you will need to have as much free space on your hard drive as it does in Yandex.Disk. It will be necessary to free up space on all devices where the program is installed. If you use the service only through the web interface, there is no need to free up storage space (during synchronization). However, in this case, you will not be able to work with files stored in the Yandex cloud as stored on a local disk.
The image below shows the current conditions for providing storage space. If you read the article much later than its publication, the conditions may change.
How to install Yandex disk on a computer
As I said above, you can use cloud storage without installing software, but in this case you will not get all the functionality. Therefore, I recommend that you install at least once, try and decide for yourself to use the program or not.
To install the software, go to this link -\u003e Yandex.Disk Setup. Download the installation file necessary for your operating system (usually determined automatically) and install it on your computer. During installation, the program by default will offer to install additional services that, in my opinion, are absolutely unnecessary and I never use them. Uncheck the boxes in the corresponding fields.
After installing the program, you will need to log into your account using the mailbox from Yandex mail as a login and password from your mail account. If you have not started Mail.Yandex, click on the register link and register an account. After that, log in with this username.
The next step is the location of the folder for storing files. By default, it is located on the system drive. In my case, this option does not fit because my system drive C: is small (I use SSD disks to install the system because they speed up Windows very much), and for storing the main files I have an ordinary large-capacity disk.
If you are comfortable with storing files in the default folder, click the “Get started” button. To change the folder, click "Configure folder location" and select the folder using the change button. Click to get started.
If all the settings were made correctly, the program will automatically start synchronizing data in the cloud storage with your computer. The download of all stored files to the local disk will begin (of course, if you had them there before, such as in my case). At first I used the web interface for storing files, and after installing the program, it automatically started downloading everything to my disk.
Yandex drive: how to use
To start using the disk as a storage of your files, you need to place these same files in the Yandex cloud in your account. After installation on a computer, you can get to the folder with files through “My computer” by selecting the appropriate folder “Yandex. Disk ”or double-clicking on the icon of the flying saucer in the system tray. You can manage the files in this folder just like the others on your computer. You can use the clipboard to copy / move from another folder, or you can use the drag-and-drop technology by dragging folders and files with the mouse.
As soon as you move or copy a file or folder to the Yandex.Disk folder, the program automatically starts synchronizing objects with cloud storage (synchronization must be enabled).
The fact that the file you placed in the folder started to synchronize shows a blue icon with arrows on each of the objects that is being synchronized. After successfully saving the file in the cloud, the icon turns green. In the process of the program, the tray icon will show the status. During synchronization, the same blue circle is displayed, and upon completion, if saved successfully, it will change to green.
Deleting files is the same as deleting files on your disk. Pressing the Del button or deleting by right-clicking on an object. Immediately after this operation, the program will automatically delete the file in the cloud storage.
If you do not use the program on your computer to manage your disk, Yandex has provided the ability to perform all operations through the web interface. You just need to launch the browser (on any device) and go to the Disk.Yandex site. Log in with your username and password and immediately get to your disk.
An interface will open in which all your folders and files will be located. You can upload files to disk by clicking on the “Upload files” area or simply copy objects by dragging and dropping into the same area. Navigate through folders by double-clicking.
For operations on a file or folder, you must select them. After highlighting, a menu with possible actions will appear on the right. You can:
As in the web interface, the program installed on your computer allows you to provide access to files or folders to another user. To do this, click on the tray icon and select the Sharing menu -\u003e Select a file or folder and provide a public link. Moreover, you can provide access to files not only from the Yandex.Disk folder, but also to any folder / file on your computer. The program will automatically add this object to the synchronization list and create a link for access.
To disable synchronization and access, go to the program settings menu and in the “Synchronization” tab, uncheck the folder and click “Apply”. Your folder will be excluded from the list for access and for synchronization.
How to remove Yandex drive
To remove the Yandex.Disk program from your computer, you need to do some actions in a certain sequence. The first thing to do is disconnect the local folder where the files are stored from the remote server. To do this, go to the program settings and open the "Account" tab and click on the "Disconnect computer from disk" button. Click "Apply" or "OK."
After this operation, you can safely delete all the files in the folder for the disk. If you do the opposite (delete the files in the folder, and then turn off the computer), the program will have time to synchronize and delete the files in the cloud. But you will not necessarily need to delete what is stored in the cloud. You can fully use the web interface and store backup copies on the disk that you do not use every day.
After disconnecting, click "Start" and go to the "Control Panel". Select “Programs and components” (this is the case if you have Windows 7) and find the Yandex.Disk program in the list and delete it from the computer.
The last step is to free up disk space by deleting the folder that you created during installation and all the contents. After that, Yandex Disk is no longer on your computer.

The classic Yandex.Disk program allows you to work with Drive files on your computer and automatically synchronizes all changes to the Drive via the Internet.
Restriction. The Yandex.Disk program can be installed on the following operating systems:

After installation, the program icon will appear in the tray (notification area) of Windows.
The Yandex.Disk program will prompt you to enter the username and password of your Yandex account. Until you are logged in, an exclamation mark is displayed on the tray icon.

Drive folder location selection
The Yandex.Disk program automatically creates a folder in which a copy of your Disk will be stored. You can configure its location on the computer immediately after installing the program. To do this, click Set folder location → Change and select the desired folder.
Note. If there is not enough space on the computer for the entire Yandex.Disk folder, the program will warn about this. You can set up custom synchronization or select a different folder for Drive files.
If you skipped this step, you can configure the folder location in another way:
Work with files and folders
To upload files to Disk, just copy or move them to the Yandex.Disk folder. For example, open the folder in Explorer (click the icon in the program menu) and drag the necessary files into it. After synchronization, the moved files will appear on the server. You can open the Drive page and verify that all files have been downloaded successfully.
Files that you delete from the Yandex.Disk folder on the server will be moved to the Trash. These files are stored in the Recycle Bin for 30 days, after which they are automatically deleted from the server. Files deleted from the server cannot be restored.
Note. Files moved to Trash continue to occupy space on your Drive. If you run out of space, empty the Trash.
To empty the Trash on Disk, open the Yandex.Disk folder, right-click on the Trash and select the menu item Yandex.Disk: Empty trash.
Right-click on the desired file or folder. In the menu that appears, select Yandex.Disk → Copy public linkif it is a folder, or Yandex.Disk: Copy public linkif it is a file.
Click the Drive icon in the tray (notification area).
Share folder
Open the Yandex.Disk folder and right-click on the desired folder. In the menu that appears, select Yandex.Disk: Set up sharing.
The program will open the access settings page in your browser. On this page you can select friends to whom you need to open access, and determine their rights.
Automatically upload photos and videos to Drive
You can automatically upload to your Disk all your photo and video files from any electronic media (camera, smartphone, memory card, etc.) and store them in the “Camera” folder or in any other folder on the Disk.
Upload files
Connect the device to your computer and wait for the dialog box to appear prompting for startup:
To start the process of uploading photo and video files to Disk, click the Download button. Leave checked <название устройства> so that the next time you connect, downloading from this device always starts automatically, without a request.
All photo and video files found on your device will be loaded by default into the automatically created “Camera” folder. All files in the folder will be renamed in accordance with the date and time of their creation (shooting). You can manage your photos on your computer or on the service page in the image view mode.
If the device was disconnected from the computer during boot and the option was turned on Always upload photos and videos from<название устройства> , when the connection is restored, the download will continue automatically. If the option has been disabled, a dialog box opens with a prompt for startup.
To cancel the automatic loading of photo and video files from your device, click the Not Now button. In the dialog that opens, you can perform this action only for the current connection or enable the option Never download from this device. In this case, the next time you connect this device, a dialog box with a suggestion of startup will not appear.
Note. Autoload photo and video files will work even if you are disconnected from the network. When Internet connection is restored, the synchronization of the Camera folder with the server will begin.
Disabling startup
To disable autoload of photo and video files for all devices, follow these steps:
If you want to change the startup decision from the device that you previously connected to the computer, check that the option Offer autoload photos and videos enabled and click Forget device. The next time you connect to such a device, a dialog box opens with a prompt for startup.
There is not enough space on the computer for the entire Yandex.Disk folder. What to do?
To save space on your computer, you can disable the synchronization of one or more folders with the Yandex.Disk server.
You can configure selective synchronization at the first start of the program so as not to download all the folders on the computer.
Disabling Folder Sync
Attention. Folder synchronization cannot be turned off until not all files are synchronized in it (the folder is marked with an icon).
To disable folder synchronization:
Folder synchronization can also be turned off via the context menu. Open the Yandex.Disk folder and right-click on the desired folder. In the menu that appears, select Yandex.Disk → Disable Folder Sync:

If you have disabled folder synchronization, you can upload files to it in the Yandex.Disk settings window. To do this, go to the Sync tab and drag and drop files to the name of the desired folder.
