The purpose of this review was not so much to compare all models as to give you complete information on which Xiaomi TV boxes you can buy and which absolutely not. What do we have? And the fact that Russian-speaking users can only buy these models with Russian language support:

You already understood the pros and cons of these consoles. The first two are based on Android TV with all its advantages and disadvantages. There is a voice search. The last one is not new android... All set-top boxes lack an Ethernet port, but have good Wi-Fi reception. At the same time, all these consoles work smoothly, well balanced, even with a not very powerful processor on board. They do great with Full HD and decent with 4K.
I connected the TV with the Xiaomi home ecosystem and forgot about the Apple TV. Coolest Smart for TV you can find.

All ports are located on one side, so that the viewer gets only the front part of the device. Nice, laconic, there is not even a power button - it works from the remote control.
But you can reboot only by turning off the power or using a complex combination on the remote control.
Since all ports are on the same side, hot swapping flash drives in tight spaces is a pleasure. In my case, it is completely impossible at the moment (although what difference does it make if everything is viewed from the NAS?). 
In addition, the engineers did not provide any mounting brackets. I do not have a shelf for the equipment, so I had to glue it to the TV with double-sided tape. Not the most technologically advanced solution for two rather hot surfaces. Peels off.
Incredible power. In reserve
Inside Mi Box 3 Enhanced hides a special single-chip platform for media boxes from MediaTek MT8693. Powerful, high heat dissipation. Hot, even though the pies are peki - and the cooler does not always save you.
Still - it includes two cores at 2.0 GHz, four at 1.6 GHz, and PowerVR GX6250 graphics. In the "parrots" of many readers, smartphones are weaker (and they are already very close to laptops, only architecture separates them). 
All known formats can decode the shaitan-box. Playback 4K video H.265 / HEVC Main 10 (color depth - 10 bit) at 60 fps, H.264 / AVC High Profile (color depth - 8 bit) at 30 fps. There is support for Dolby (DTS) and 5.1-channel sound.
True, the absence of any audio output limits the functionality of the system. HDMI only. So the speakers will have to be connected to the TV. Or use a signal splitter on the Mi TV Box side, which will certainly degrade the signal. 
There are no USB 3.0 ports, both interfaces are of the second version. The maximum amount of memory for a flash drive is up to 128 GB (very by the way, its only 8 GB - even a high-quality FullHD is not enough). For an external hard drive - unlimited. But without external power, only a 2.5-inch drive will swing.
Accessories - just like Apple
The set of wireless interfaces is quite rich. Therefore, there are no restrictions when choosing additional accessories: any keypads, access points and wireless storages are automatically picked up.
It is important that the set-top box works adequately in each of the Wi-Fi bands. And, perhaps, it has the most powerful antenna of all home devices I have tested in several years. Squeezes all the speed out of the router.
There is support for controlling devices connected via HDMI - there is HDMI CEC. Any TVs or receivers are supported.
AirPlay- working! With any device, the connection is stable.
The cable, although it allows you to transmit a 4K stream with the maximum bitrate, will have to be changed. Short. Unless of course you hide the device right behind the TV.
And such an arrangement may well be, since the remote control does not use a standard IR transmitter, but Bluetooth. You can skip aiming at the set-top box and drive from around the corner(even from behind the wall).
If it were not for the software limitations, the remote control would have turned out to be an excellent air mouse, since it has a gyroscope and an accelerometer integrated in it. There is even a microphone for voice control of the set-top box. But software allows the use of sensors only in games, and it is not recognized as a manipulator in all.
As a remote control, Xiaomi Mi TV Box 3 Enchanced can also work with a smartphone. To do this, you need not an IrDA, but a proprietary Mi Home application (iOS, Android). In it, the prefix is instantly detected without any unnecessary gestures.
After connecting, when you click on the set-top box icon, the smartphone turns the screen into a copy of the remote control. It also works via Bluetooth, except that the connection with the native remote control is more stable. And the transmitter is more powerful.
Is there life without Russification?
Powered by Xiaomi Mi TV 3 Enchanced running MIUI 7 based on Android 5.1. This is not Android TV, which means that any programs are available for installation. That's just according to the old Chinese tradition, no google services.
And in order to install them, you need to get Ruth... But it is almost impossible to navigate by hieroglyphs! You have to go to your Internet, and use pictures from profile resources to install English language... For settings only. 
Accordingly, all apps are for Chinese people only. Instead, a selection is installed from a flash drive for viewing content on the territory of Russia and the CIS. And everything falls into place.
For the Russian language to appear in the search, you still need to root the prefix. I have given up on this for now, fortunately, there are still plenty of foreign films. 
You can do without Russification, but it is unlikely that the home will quickly get used to it. AND favorite Soviet cartoons it will be problematic to find.
I completely switched to fashionable TV shows, but I feel that in a couple of weeks I will still overpower myself and get root, Russian and Google services. Without them, the capabilities of Android are cut to a minimum, and its functionality is unlikely to be felt.

Today Mi TV Box 3 Enchanced is one of the most powerful consoles on Android (which is still nonsense, but many love it - and the remote control is like a joystick). It can handle any content and any Android games.

The market for set-top boxes based on Android TV is hardly saturated. And although big number people are satisfied with models such as the outdated Nexus Player or the brand new top Nvidia Shield, the choice among Android set-top boxes can hardly be called good: the variety on it is several times less than, for example, in the environment of smartphones. Companies simply do not see the point in producing something that will be sold in small quantities, especially when you consider Google chromecast, which has eaten away a significant share of the market.
The Xiaomi Mi Box 3s is a small black box with rounded edges that runs Android TV and supports 4K resolution with HDR mode. It comes with a minimalistic touchscreen console. All this wealth is very inexpensive - you can find it in our retail for about 4000 thousand rubles. It is worth noting that Xiaomi has released its own set-top boxes before, but this model is one of the first to run a full-fledged Android TV.
Google needs vendor support to promote its Android TV OS, and the Mi Box 3s is one of those devices. But will this device live up to expectations and can it completely replace the Chromecast? Let's try to find out.
Mi Box 3s comes in a small minimalistic box, inside which the set-top box itself, an HDMI cable, Charger, remote control and instructions in Chinese. The material of the attachment is a pleasant matte slightly textured plastic. The thickness of the device is only 10 mm, which is not much more than the thickness of most smartphones. It can be easily hidden behind the TV when needed.
At the bottom there is a rubberized ring that serves as a stand. This material is excellent for slippery surfaces. All ports are hidden at the back. The only thing that stands out against the black background of the set-top box is the small Mi logo. In addition, during operation of the set-top box, a small LED is on, which does not interfere at all.
The Bluetooth remote is also minimalistic. It weighs nothing at all - and this includes two AAA batteries, which, by the way, come with the remote control. The main control buttons are the up-down-right-left buttons, which are located on a large circle. In the center is the OK button. The circle itself is touch-sensitive - when you make circular movements on it with your finger, for example, the text input cursor jumps either to the beginning or to the end of the text field; otherwise, there is almost nowhere to use it. It would be logical to hang the video rewind function on it, but this does not work. In addition, there are buttons for power, return back, exit to the home screen, call context menu and volume control.
As already mentioned, the Mi Box 3s comes with an HDMI cable, which, in principle, is not bad, since a number of other budget consoles do not have it. Its length is approximately 1 meter. The length of the charging cord is also short - the same meter. This can cause some problems with the positioning of the set-top box, given that the power connector is round and not standard. USB Type-C or microUSB, and the charging cord is inseparable from the charger.
Installing the set-top box is very easy: just plug in the power supply and connect the Mi Box 3s to the TV via an HDMI cable. Then you can simply switch the TV to the desired input and follow the instructions on the screen using a very convenient remote.
Mi Box 3s runs on Android TV version 6.0.1. After a small initial setup of the Wi-Fi connection, a rather laconic start menu appears, which for some reason was originally in Indonesian, since it was easy to guess from the icons in the menu how to change the language to English. There is no Russian language.
At the top of the start menu, there are icons for searching by voice or text. When you click on the voice search, an error is displayed, which is understandable - there is no microphone in the set-top box. A text search finds a video on Youtube, everything is correct here.
One gets the impression that we have a prefix re-flashed by craftsmen, the menu of the device looks so raw. The following applications are installed by default: Youtube, Google Play, the application for launching media files from a flash drive or via the Media Explorer network, and the Sideload Launcher application, with which you can access all the device settings. There are two types of settings available: settings for the firmware itself and standard android settings... Some settings are not available: for example, we were unable to reach some application installations.
Various applications can be installed using Google Play. Video viewing apps work fine (we tested Youtube and Vimeo), including 4K ones (the box only heats up slightly), but there was a problem with some games. For example, Minion's Rush crashed and wouldn't start again; Asphalt 8 offered to enter my age, which we could not enter from the remote; Hill Climb Racing started up and worked fine. Perhaps a joystick is needed for this. By the way, it should be noted that there is not much built-in free memory - only about 5 GB, so many games cannot be installed.
The function of playing files from a flash drive is available: video, music and photos. It is also possible to connect to the folder with general access on the network, it is enough to know the ip-address of the device. To do this, just go to the Media Manager and click the “Add device” button.
In general, that's all. You can also delve into the settings: connect a Bluetooth joystick, change the Wi-Fi network, change the time settings and other settings. It is worth noting that not all settings items have been translated and sometimes inscriptions in Chinese come out, as well as the fact that for some reason the device is displayed as Android Shield.
Summing up, we can say with a high degree of confidence that Mi Box 3s is not a device for everyone. Its most obvious competitor in this price range - Chromecast Ultra - looks, in our opinion, preferable, because it has a simpler setup and is much easier to manage, although this requires a smartphone. Of course, it has fewer possibilities, but otherwise it looks like a much more solid and complete product. For half the money, you can take a regular Chromecast, but keep in mind that it does not support 4K resolution.
In general, if it were not for the flaws in the firmware, then Mi Box 3s could be safely recommended for purchase. Now it can be recommended only to those people who do not need games, but desperately need Mi Box 3s chips: a separate remote control, the ability to connect their drives or shared folders over the network. In this regard, it looks, of course, much better than the competitor from Google.
Xiaomi TV boxes are unique devices, the capabilities of which have already been used by thousands of users. Small size, excellent functionality, practicality and impeccable quality of materials and workmanship make the gadget easy to use.
