The resolution on the monitor does not change. Screen resolution unsupported by the monitor is set: how to solve the problem in Windows environment. Correct and Incorrect Ways to Adjust Screen Resolution

Very often users are faced with a situation where the monitor displays a "save mode", "out of range" or "unsupported resolution" message, or « » .
This means that the video card settings are set to a resolution that the monitor does not support.

On many forums and sites, you can find this advice:

"To change the screen resolution, you need to press F8 when loading Windows and set any minimum resolution, after which it will reboot in normal mode and enjoy life."

But, as practice shows, this does not always work.

I want to share 100% way to reset screen resolution on computer.
In order to reset the screen resolution, you really need to boot your computer in Safe Mode, but let's go step by step.

  1. When loading Windows, press F8;
  2. We select the item "boot the computer in Safe Mode";
  3. Press the key combination Windows + Pause (we get to the properties of my computer), go to the Hardware tab, press the Device Manager button;
  4. Expand the list of Video adapters;
  5. We select your video adapter, call the context menu and select Disable (Windows may ask “Do I need to remove the driver?” You can answer “no”, but sometimes it is necessary);
  6. We reboot the computer in normal mode;
  7. And now you don't need to do anything, we observe a miracle, Windows will re-detect the video adapter and reset the monitor screen resolution.

This method helped out many times.

There is also a way to reset the screen resolution - return the old monitor back or reinstall Windows :) And why are you laughing, I have come across advice on reinstalling Windows on many forums! Just imagine, a 5-minute problem can be solved in a few hours.

How to boot Windows 10 in Safe Mode to reset graphics card settings

In the comments they asked a question (stated): " in windows 10 it is impossible to boot in safe mode without first enabling this option in the OS itself , and since it is impossible to enable this option without a working monitor, your advice for Win 10 users is not relevant. Any other thoughts that would work for Win 10?

PS: there is no other monitor at hand, no built-in video adapter. "

This is not entirely true ... Yes, you can really enable the boot menu only from the "working" Windows 10. But the boot menu, where the "Boot in Safe Mode" (Safe Mode) will be, can be called up several times by restarting the computer with the Reset button on the system unit. Windows 10 will understand that for some reason it fails to boot and will offer various options for recovery. Once booted into Safe Mode, you will be able to perform all the necessary steps to reset the screen resolution in Windows 10, which are described above.

Q: how to reset screen resolution via bios

A: information about the screen resolution settings is stored in the operating system configs, you cannot reset the screen resolution through the BIOS

Windows 10 won't let you set your screen resolution higher than 1024 x 768? Is the image stretched on a monitor or laptop? Have you lost panoramic modes? There are ways to fix all of this.

What to do if you can't set the resolution higher than 1024 x 768 in Windows 10

Windows 10 service packs do not include system components and new features, but sometimes drivers, such as video cards or other devices. It may happen that the drivers provided by Microsoft do not work as expected, as a result, the screen resolution does not change in Windows 10 and the video card shows a picture in poor low quality. Installing the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website does not help, as Windows constantly overwrites them on its own.

This problem is encountered by a number of users who use laptops and computers with ATI Radeon HD 4000 series video cards and below. After updating "Advanced Micro Devices, Inc." I am experiencing issues with Radeon cards causing panoramic modes to stop displaying. Only screen resolutions are available: 640 × 480, 800 × 600 and 1024 × 768. How to fix?

Step 1: Disable Automatic Device Updates in Windows 10

First of all, you need to turn off automatic device updates, since in this case it is the source of the problem. The system is constantly changing the manufacturer's driver with its own from Windows Update, which eventually causes problems.

First, open an Explorer window. In the side menu on the left side, right-click on the "This PC" shortcut and select Properties from the context menu.

The System tab will open. Pay attention to the left side of the window with a list of available bookmarks. Click on the "Advanced system settings" field.

The System Properties window will be displayed. Go to the Hardware tab and then click the Device Installation Options button.

Here you can choose to have the system automatically install manufacturer apps and custom icons.

This feature also includes device-specific drivers such as ATI Radeon or NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards. Check "No (device may not work properly)" in this section.

The first step has been taken - the system will not change the current driver to a new one, which causes problems with the screen resolution. Now you need to restore the original one for the video card so that all resolutions are available again.

Step 2: Restore the original graphics card driver

First, you should try to do it in a simple way, that is, using the Device Manager. Open Control Panel in Windows 10 (if there is no “parked” tile, you can find it using a search engine), then go to the “Hardware and Sound - Device Manager” tab.

Then find your video card, go to the Driver tab and use the "Restore Driver" option. Windows should automatically restore the original one that previously worked correctly, and thanks to the fact that we turned off automatic updating in the first step, it will not be overwritten anymore.

Immediately after recovery, the screen will go black for a moment and then revert back to the correct resolution.

What to do if the driver repair function does not work

If the recovery option from the second step does not work, then you must first completely remove the existing drivers, and then manually install the original ones using the official installer from the AMD or Nvidia website.

Instructions for Radeon cards

If your computer has a Radeon graphics card, download the AMD CleanUninstall Utility. This is the official utility for removing drivers for Radeon cards.

Run it, click on OK to confirm the deletion and wait for completion. After a while, a window with the results will appear - click "Finish" and confirm the restart of the computer. Now you can install new drivers.

Removing AMD Drivers

If you have a Radeon HD 2000, 3000, or 4000 series graphics card, download the AMD Catalyst 13.4 Legacy Beta Driver utility.

For newer ones, you can install the drivers automatically using the AMD Driver Autodetect program.

After installing them, the resolution will be restored to the correct value, compatible with the hardware-supported display of the monitor or laptop.

NVIDIA cards manual

Uninstall the current driver for the NVIDIA card - the easiest way to do this is to use the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) utility.

Then download and install the original one for your device from the NVIDIA website.

After installing them, the screen resolution should return to its original values.

Good day!

I will describe a fairly common situation on which I often receive questions. So …

On an ordinary "average" laptop by modern standards, with an IntelHD video card (possibly plus some other discrete Nvidia), Windows 7 is installed. After the system is installed and the desktop appears for the first time, the user notices that the screen has become then small, compared to what it was (note: i.e. the screen has a low resolution). In the screen properties - the resolution is set to 800x600 (as a rule) and the other cannot be set. And what to do in this case?

In this article I will give a solution to a similar problem (so that there is nothing tricky here :)).

SOLUTION

This problem most often occurs with Windows 7 (or XP). The fact is that their bundle does not include (or rather, there are much less of them) built-in universal video drivers(which, by the way, are in Windows 8, 10 - that is why, when installing these OS, there are significantly fewer problems with video drivers). Moreover, this applies to drivers for other components, not only video cards.

To see which drivers have problems, I recommend opening device Manager... The easiest way to do this is using Windows Control Panel(just in case - the screen below shows how to open it in Windows 7).

In the control panel, open the address: Control Panel \ System and Security \ System ... On the left in the menu there is a link to the device manager - open it (screen below)!

How to open Device Manager - Windows 7

Next, pay attention to the "Video adapters" tab: if "" is present in it, this confirms that you do not have drivers in the system (because of this, the resolution is low and nothing fits on the screen :)).

Important! Please note that the icon indicates that there is no driver for the device at all - and it does not work! For example, the screenshot above shows that, for example, there is no driver even for an Ethernet controller (i.e. for a network card). This means that the driver for the video card will not be downloaded. there is no network driver, and you cannot download the network driver, because no network ... In general, that is still a node!

By the way, the screenshot below shows what the "Video adapters" tab looks like if the driver is installed (the name of the video card will be visible - Intel HD Graphics Family).

The easiest way to solve this problem - this is to get the disk from the driver that came with your PC (however, such disks do not give to laptops :)). And with the help of it - everything is quickly restored. Below, I will consider the option of what can be done and how to restore everything, even in cases where your network card does not work and there is no Internet to download even a network driver.

1) How to restore the network.

It will not be possible to do without the help of a friend (neighbor). As a last resort, you can use a regular phone (if you have the Internet on it).

Solution essence that there is a special program 3DP Net(about 30 MB in size), which contains universal drivers for almost all types of network adapters. Those. roughly speaking, after downloading this program, installing it, it will select the driver and your network card will work. You can download everything else from your PC.

How to share the Internet from your phone:

2) Auto-Installing Drivers - Helpful / Harmful?

If you have Internet on your PC, then auto-installation of drivers can be a good solution. In my practice, I, of course, met both with the correct operation of such utilities, and with the fact that sometimes they updated the drivers in such a way that it would be better not to do anything at all ...

But in the overwhelming majority of cases, the driver update goes through, nevertheless, correctly and everything works. And there are a number of advantages from using them:

  1. save a lot of time on identifying and searching for drivers for specific equipment;
  2. can automatically find and update drivers to the latest version;
  3. in case of an unsuccessful update, such a utility can roll back the system to the old driver.

In general, for those looking to save time, I recommend the following:

  1. Create a restore point manually - see this article for how to do it:
  2. Install one of the driver managers, I recommend these:.
  3. Use one of the programs listed above to search and update "firewood" on a PC!
  4. In case of force majeure - just roll back the system using a restore point (see point-1 just above).

Driver Booster is one of the driver update programs. Everything is done with a single click of the mouse! The program is given in the link above.

3) Decide on the model of the video card.

If you decide to act manually, then before downloading and installing video drivers, you need to decide what kind of video card you have installed in your PC (laptop). The easiest way to do this is to use special utilities. One of the best, in my humble opinion (besides free) is (screenshot below).

Determining the video card model - HWinfo

By the way, if you have a laptop - then the video drivers for it can be found on the laptop manufacturer's website. To do this, you need to know the exact model of the device. You can find out about this in the article on determining the laptop model:

3) Official sites

Here, as it were, there is nothing to comment on. Knowing your OS (for example, Windows 7, 8, 10), video card model or laptop model - all you need to do is go to the manufacturer's website and download the required video driver (by the way, not always the newest driver is the best. Sometimes it is better to install an older one - because it is more stable. But here it is rather difficult to guess, just in case, I recommend that you download a couple of driver versions and try it experimentally ...) .

Websites of video card manufacturers:

Laptop manufacturers websites:

4) Installing the driver and setting the "native" screen resolution

Installation…

As a rule, it does not represent anything difficult - just run the executable file and wait for the end of the installation. After restarting the computer, the screen will blink a couple of times and everything will start working as before. The only thing I also recommend before installing is to make a backup copy of Windows -

Changing the resolution ...

You can find a full description of changing the resolution in this article:

I will try to be brief here. In most cases, it is enough to right-click anywhere on the desktop and then open the link to video card parameters or screen resolution(which I will do, see the screen below :)).

By the way? You can also change the resolution in the settings of the video driver - usually it is always visible next to the clock (if anything - press the arrow - " Show hidden icons", As in the screenshot below).

IntelHD video driver icon.

This completes the mission of the article - the screen resolution should have become optimal and the workspace should have grown. If you have something to supplement the article, thank you in advance. Good luck!

If you need to change the screen resolution in Windows 10, it is almost always very easy to do it, and the necessary steps are described in the material. However, in some cases a problem is possible - the resolution does not change, the item for changing it in the parameters is not active, as well as additional methods of changing do not work.

This guide details what to do if the Windows 10 screen resolution does not change, how to fix the problem and restore the ability to adjust the resolution on your computer and laptop, if possible.

Now, step by step on the various ways to fix the situation when you cannot change the screen resolution. The first step is to check if everything is ok with the drivers.

As a result, if everything went smoothly, you should get the correct video card driver installed, as well as the ability to change the resolution.

Most often, the matter is in the video drivers, however, other options are also possible, and, accordingly, the ways to fix it:

I hope the guide was helpful and one of the ways will help you get back the ability to change the screen resolution to Windows 10.
