Changing the screen resolution manually
To change the screen resolution to Windows 7, 8, press the right button on the free space of the desktop. In the pop-up menu, select "screen resolution" to open display settings (they helped in the last article).
There is another way to get to the settings for changing the resolution. ... Set small or large icons in the preview area. Find "screen" from the list of options, click it.
Note: if all screens are not displayed, click "find", if you are not sure which display you need to change the resolution, click "define". This will briefly show the large serial number of the screen to uniquely identify it.

Modern LCD monitors support a higher resolution than outdated CRTs, but they show better performance at one value, not always the maximum. CRT monitors in this regard are more flexible - their picture quality changes slightly with decreasing and increasing resolution.
When choosing a resolution, you need to focus on your personal perception. Your eyes should be comfortable looking at the monitor. If at maximum resolution you have to bring your face closer to the screen, then you need to change the resolution to a lower one.
Adjusting the screen resolution using the system

You can control display resolution in Windows 8 not only through system settings. It happens that none of the standard resolutions are suitable for the correct launch of a game. In this case, you can use third-party software, for example, the program Power strip, which allows you to change the resolution in a much wider range than in the Windows settings.
Once installed, the Power Strip creates a tray icon. Its context menu provides access to a variety of graphics control options, including various monitor settings. Changing the resolution is available from the "Display Profiles" -> "Customize" menu.
To use this feature in Windows 8, Power Strip must be run as administrator.
As you can see from the picture, the scale of resolutions here is much more detailed than the system settings of the screen. The range of possible values in the Power Strip for my monitor is from 640x480 to 1920x1080, and on Windows it is from 1024x768 to 920x1080. The scale division step here is also very small (about 60-120 pixels), that is, you can choose the optimal values for almost any game.
After changing the resolution, save the display profile: click the “Save” button and provide a name for the profile. To quickly switch between several profiles, you can assign a hotkey to each of them. To do this, do the following:
- click on the "Key" icon marked in the screenshot below in the "Profiles" section - this will open the "Hot Keys" window;
- Select your saved profile in the Features and Profiles section, check the box next to the On. hotkeys ”, place the cursor in the“ Selected key ”box, press any key on the keyboard (for example, D) and click“ Add binding ”.
In this way, you can create several screen profiles for different games and switch between them on the go.

With Screen Resolution Manager, you can create separate permission profiles for each account on your computer. The range of available values in this program is also much wider than in Windows. So, for my screen, it ranges from 800x600 to 1920x1080 with a step of 80-120 pixels.
To create a profile, you need to move the slider along the scale to select the desired screen resolution and click OK. After re-entering the system under your account, the saved profile will be loaded automatically.
Screen resolution determines the legibility of text and images displayed on the screen. At higher resolutions, such as 1920 × 1080 pixels (Full HD), objects appear sharper. In addition, objects are smaller and more can fit on the screen. At low resolutions, such as 1024x768 pixels, fewer objects fit on the screen, but they appear larger.
Generally, the larger the monitor, the higher the resolution it will support. The ability to increase the screen resolution depends on the size and capabilities of the monitor, as well as on the type of video adapter used.
