Remix OS 3.0 system requirements:

  • dual-core processor with a clock speed of 2 GHz or better;
  • 2 GB of RAM or more;
  • at least 8 GB of free disk space;
  • good internet access.

  • Remix OS 3.0.102 64-bit ( torrent, mirrors).
  • Remix OS 3.0.102 32-bit ( torrent, mirrors).

Installing next to Windows

The easiest way to install Remix OS 3.0 on a computer is to use the official utility for those who already have modern Windows on their computer. All operations with your computer you perform at your own peril and risk.

How to install:

  1. First, download the image you need from the link above (preferably a torrent). Unpack the downloaded archive into a folder on your computer.
  • In the column "Type" we leave "Hard disk". In the "Media" column, by default, the selected drive is C or any other drive where your Windows is installed. Better to leave it as it is. Click "OK", select the preferred disk size for Remix OS and confirm the choice.
  • We are waiting for the end of the installation and restart the computer. The program will immediately prompt you to restart your computer, which is what you need to do.
  • During the restart, the computer will not immediately start Windows, but first will offer to choose between it and Remix OS.
  • The installation was successful.
  • Installation on a flash drive

Also, the developers provide the ability to create a bootable flash drive with Remix OS 3.0, which works like a LiveCD.

    How to do it:

    1. As in the previous instructions, download the image you need from the link above (preferably a torrent). Unpack the downloaded archive into a folder on your computer.
    2. Find and run Remix_OS_for_PC_Installation_Tool.exe.
    3. In the ISO File column, click on the “Browse” button and select the iso-image file, which is located in the same folder.
    4. In the "Type" column, select "USB Device", and in the "Media" section - the label of the required USB-disk. Click "OK" and wait for the installation to complete. We reboot the computer.
  • In the first few seconds of booting the computer, press the button to bring up the Alternate Boot Menu (F12 on Dell, F9 on HP, F12 on Lenovo, Option Key on Mac).
  • In the window that appears, select your flash drive.
  • A menu will appear with two items - Resident Mode and Guest Mode. The first stores the job data, the second does not. Run the one you need.

  • Thus, you have created a LiveUSB flash drive with the Remix OS 3.0 operating system.
  • You can install the system on a computer directly from a flash drive:
    1. In the menu with two items Resident and Guest Mode, do not select any, but instead press the Tab key.
    2. Erase all the text that appears and enter the command / kernel initrd = / initrd.img root = / dev / ram0 androidboot.hardware = remix_x86_64 INSTALL = 1 DEBUG =
    3. The installation program for a typical Linux distribution will start, where you need to select a partition and carry out a few more simple manipulations.
    4. As a result, Remix OS will be installed along with the Grub bootloader - it can also be used alongside Windows.

How to remove Remix OS 3.0 from your computer

Remix OS 3.0 is very easy to remove from your computer if you installed it from under Windows. It is enough to run the same utility that performed the installation. It will detect the system on the disk and offer to remove it.

Hello everyone. Recently learned about the operating system Remix OS built on Android.

Interesting enough system optimized for laptops and PCs. There is a windowed mode, that is, you can open programs in windows, and not like in Android, in which you need to switch between them.

Of course the system Remix OS still raw, I hope that it will be brought to mind. 🙂 For example, due to some games, the system completely freezes, only restart helps. Maybe this is due to the incompatibility of applications, or maybe because of the windowed mode.

Remix OS installs on a USB 3.0 flash drive and can be used from any PC, just boot from it, and not from the hard drive. All data (downloaded applications, etc.), the system also stores on a USB flash drive.

Personally, I recorded the system on a 2.0 flash drive, the write and read speed of which is 25 - 20 MB / s - this is quite enough. And it won't boot Remix OS from a flash drive with a write speed of less than 10mb / s. So, you can try recording on 2.0, she herself will say whether the flash is suitable or not. 🙂

Well, now let's get down to business and put Remix OS as a second system:
    1. We need EasyBCD and EaseUS Partition Master, download them here TYK TYK
    3. We download the system itself from the official site TYK
    5. We take out the file from the archive, or rather the image of the system.

Using the EaseUS Partition Master program, we edit the partition from which we want to take at least 16GB.
    - Select the partition from which we want to take 16GB and click "Change / Move Partition", reduce it so that the unallocated space remains 16 gigs

    - Now we click on "unoccupied" and create a partition, in the "Name" write REMIX OS, "File system" - FAT32

    - Click "Apply" and get your 16GB partition.

Now you need to extract the files from the image itself, onto the created section. This can be done with the 7-Zip or WinRAR archiver.

Open EasyBCD, click "Add entry": in the column "Removable / external media" - select the "ISO" tab, in the "Name" field write "REMIX OS", in the "Path" select the image of our system (from which files were dropped into the section ) and click add. By the way, you cannot delete and move the image (the system will not start), so it is better to drop it into the created section too.

We recently wrote to you about. It is worth noting that this is not just an emulator of the most popular OS, but its real desktop version, developed by former Google employees. And now, finally, you have the opportunity to download it from the official site and install it on your computer. Read how to do this in our material.

It is highly desirable to perform all actions on a USB flash drive of at least 8GB in size, supporting USB 3.0 and having the appropriate write and read speeds (20MB / sec).

Attention! All actions you perform at your own peril and risk, and we are not responsible for the result and possible failures in the operation of your device. Jide notes that at the moment this is only an alpha version of the operating system, and sudden bugs are possible.

In order to install Remix OS on your computer, you need to take just a few simple steps:

    1. Download the official distribution of Remix OS 2.0 from the developer's website: http://www.jide.com/en/remixos-for-pc#downloadNow
    2. Run the utility remixos-usb-tool.exe, indicate in it path to the ISO image of the system, select the required USB flash drive and click OK. Upon completion of the installation, you will have a ready bootable flash drive with Remix OS!

    3. Now, depending on which computer you are going to run the new OS on, you need to follow certain steps. If you decide to continue the experiment on Windows, you will need to configure the BIOS boot priority from a USB flash drive. Hold F12 while turning on the computer (or the Option key if you are using a Mac) to bring up the System Startup window.
    4. In the menu that appears, you can choose two modes for launching Remix OS: Guest Mode, where after turning off the computer, no changes will be saved, or the usual Resident Mode, during which all changes and downloaded files are saved.

    5. The process of installing Remix OS on a USB flash drive will take about 15 minutes, after which you will see the long-awaited screen:

If you are using a Mac OS X computer, but also want to try Remix OS without having to install a second Windows system to create a bootable USB stick, you can do the following: 1. Download the official distribution of Remix OS 2.0 from the developer's website: http://www.jide.com/en/remixos-for-pc#downloadNow
      2. Download the UNetbootin program to create a bootable USB flash drive on Mac OS X
      3. Run the program, select the ISO image of the operating system and the desired USB flash drive (Disk Utility will help you with this), then click OK

      4. Hold down the Option (Alt) key while the backlight on the black screen turns on after reboot. Select the USB stick to continue booting the system. Further actions repeat 4 and 5 points from the above steps for WIndows.

That's all! Yes, it's that simple. Do not forget that at the moment this is just an alpha version of the operating system, and its creators honestly warn about possible bugs. But just imagine what Jide can achieve if we, the users, show a real interest in this operating system and give the developers quality feedback! The operating system is still in its infancy, but it already has many advantages and hidden ambitions. To remind myself, Remix OS is exactly what users expect from Google when they hear about the unification of Chrome OS and Android.

Today you will learn how to create a virtual machine for Remix OS in VirtualBox and install this operating system.

Remix OS is distributed free of charge for 32/64-bit configurations. You can download it from the official website.

Stage 2: Create a virtual machine

To run Remix OS, you need to create a virtual machine (VM) that acts as a PC that is isolated from your main operating system. Start VirtualBox Manager to set parameters for the future VM.

Stage 3: Configuring the Virtual Machine

If you wish, you can tweak the created machine a little and increase its performance.

    Stage 4: Install Remix OS

When everything is ready for installing the operating system, you can proceed to the final stage.

    1. Select your OS in the left part of the VirtualBox Manager with a mouse click and click on the button "Run" located on the toolbar.

    2. The machine will start its work, and for further use it will ask you to specify the OS image to start the installation. Click on the folder icon and through Explorer select the downloaded Remix OS image.

    3. Perform all further installation steps using the key Enter and up-down and right-left arrows.

    4. The system will prompt you to select the type of launch:
      • Resident mode- mode for the installed operating system;
      • Guest mode- guest mode, in which the session will not be saved.

To install Remix OS, you must have a dedicated Resident mode... Press the key Tab- under the block with the mode selection, a line with launch parameters will appear.

    5. Erase the text down to the word "Quiet" as shown in the screenshot below. Please note that there must be a space after the word.

    6. Add parameter "INSTALL = 1" and press Enter.

    7. You will be prompted to create a partition on a virtual hard disk, where Remix OS will be installed in the future. Select item "Create / Modify partitions".

    8. To the question: "Do you want to use GPT?" answer "No".

    9. The utility will start cfdisk, dealing with drive partitions. Hereinafter, all buttons will be located at the bottom of the window. Please select "New" to create a partition for installing the OS.

    10. This section needs to be made the main one. To do this, assign it as "Primary".

    11. If you are creating one partition (you don’t want to divide the virtual HDD into several volumes), then leave the number of megabytes that the utility set in advance. You allocated this amount yourself when you created the virtual machine.

    12. To make the disk bootable and the system can start from it, select the option "Bootable".

The window will remain the same, but in the table you can see that the main section (sda1) was marked as "Boot".

    13. You don't need to adjust any more parameters, so select "Write" to save the settings and go to the next window.

    14. You will be asked to confirm that you want to create a partition on the disk. Write a word "Yes", if you agree. The word itself does not fit into the screen entirely, but it is written without problems.

    15. The recording process will start, please wait.

    16. We have created the main and only partition for installing the OS on it. Please select "Quit".

    17. You will be taken back to the installer interface. Now select the created section sda1 where Remix OS will be installed in the future.

    18. When prompted to format the partition, select a file system "Ext4"- it is commonly used on Linux based systems.

    19. A notification will appear stating that formatting will delete all data from this drive, and you will be asked if you are sure of your actions. Please select "Yes".

    20. When asked if you want to install the GRUB bootloader, answer "Yes".

    21. Another question will be displayed: "You want to set the / system directory as read-write (editable)"... Click on "Yes".

    22. The Remix OS installation will begin.

    23. At the end of the installation, you will be prompted to continue with the download or reboot. Choose a convenient option - usually no reboot is required.

    24. The first boot of the OS will begin, which may take several minutes.

    25. A welcome window will appear.

    26. The system will prompt you to select a language. There are only 2 languages available - English and Chinese in two variations. In the future, it will be possible to change the language to Russian inside the OS itself.

    27. Accept the terms of the user agreement by clicking "Agree".

    28. The Wi-Fi setup step will open. Select an icon «+» in the upper right corner to add a Wi-Fi network, or click "Skip" to skip this step.

    29. Press the key Enter.

    30. You will be prompted to install various popular applications. A cursor has already appeared in this interface, but it may be inconvenient to use it - to move it within the system, you will need to hold down the left mouse button.

The selected applications will be displayed and you can install them by clicking on the button "Install"... Alternatively, you can skip this step and click "Finish".

    31. Leave the checkbox on the offer to activate Google Play services, if you agree, or uncheck it, and then click "Next".

This completes the setup, and you are taken to the desktop of the Remix OS operating system.

How to start Remix OS after installation

After you turn off the Remix OS virtual machine and turn it back on, the installation window appears again instead of the GRUB bootloader. To further boot this OS in normal mode, do the following:

After saving the settings, you can start Remix OS and work with the GRUB bootloader.

Despite the fact that Remix OS has an interface similar to Windows, its functionality is not much different from Android. Unfortunately, from July 2017 OS Remix will no longer be updated and supported by developers, so you shouldn't wait for updates and support for this system.

If you have installed Android on your PC and you find it inconvenient to use it, then this is not surprising, because Android was created for smartphones and tablets, and not for PCs. But do not rush to fold your hands. Better try Remix OS, because in fact it is the same Android, but adapted for the PC.

Due to the fact that it was created on the basis of Android-x86, you will be able to install and use Android OS apps.

In doing so, you will receive the following advantages over regular Android OS:

1.Multi-window and multitasking... Unlike Android OS, here each application will be located inside its own window, as in Windows OS. In this case, all these applications will be active at once.

2.Task bar... Here you will have a taskbar familiar to desktop operating systems, where you will see icons of running applications. You can switch between applications by simply clicking on the desired icon.

3.Ease of use of mouse and keyboard... With Remix OS, you can use a mouse and keyboard just like you do on a desktop OS.

4.File manager, with which you can work with files in the same way as on desktop systems.

    5. Convenient tool screen capture with the possibility of cropping.

6.Remix OS Regular Updates... With the OTA updater, you will receive the latest operating system updates automatically.

Preparing to install Remix OS on your computer

After we have clarified the advantages that we get after installing Remix OS on a computer, let's try it. First, check your computer to see if it meets the requirements:

        • 2 GHz dual-core processor or better;
        • 2 GB of RAM or more;
        • At least 8 GB of free disk space where the system will be installed;
        • Internet access is desirable.

If your computer meets the requirements, download the distribution from this page. There are 32- and 64-bit OS versions to choose from. When you click on the "Mirror Download" or "Torrent Download" button, a window will appear asking you to subscribe to receive updates (see below). You can enter your email address here and click the “Subscribe” button to subscribe, or click the link below “I have subscribed, skip” to skip the subscription.

Here you will be offered a coupon for the purchase of the Remix Mini (see the picture below) measuring only 12.4 x 8.8 x 2.6 cm at a discounted price of $ 49.99. You can see the characteristics. But I will not dwell on this computer anymore.

On the next page you will be asked to select a server from which you will download the distribution kit.

Installing Remix OS on a computer

In total, the developers offer 2 installation options: on a computer and on a USB flash drive. Both options assume that you will be installing using a special utility that works only on Windows 7, 8 and 10. First, let's look at how to install Remix OS on your computer.

Unpack the archive you downloaded. I have this file Remix_OS_for_PC_Android_M_32bit_B2016081502.zip. As a result, I unpacked three files:

        • Remix_OS_for_PC_Android_M_32bit_B2016081502.iso - Remix OS disk image.

Make sure that the computer has a free logical disk with a volume of 8 GB or more for Remix OS. Run the installation utility (I have this file Remix_OS_for_PC_Installation_Tool-B2016080802.exe). Specify the file with the Remix OS disk image (for me it is C: \ Remix_OS \ Remix_OS_for_PC_Android_M_32bit_B2016081502.iso), select “Hard disk” in the “Type” field, and in the “Media” field - your free logical disk on which you want to install operating system (mine is drive E). Click OK.

If you have an old 32-bit processor, you will see a warning like this. In this case, just make sure you select the 32-bit Remix OS image and click "OK".

If the logical drive on which you are installing Remix OS is large, you will see a dialog for selecting the size of the system drive. It is recommended that you select the largest suggested size, as in this case, you will be able to install more applications. Click OK.

The process of installing the OS to the disk will begin.

After everything is done, you will see a window as shown below. Click Restart Now.

First launch of Remix OS and initial setup

After installation and the first restart of the computer, you will see a menu for choosing which operating system to load. In fact, this menu will always appear after installing Remix OS on your computer. Select Remix OS here and press Enter.

The language selection screen will appear first after loading. For some reason, only English and Chinese are represented here (although, maybe I'm wrong). But let's not get upset. Select English here.

On the next screen, accept the user agreement by clicking Agree.

In the next step, you can set up WiFi right away. If your computer is connected to the Internet directly through a network card, you can skip this setting by clicking "Skip" at the top of the screen. If you want to configure WiFi, then select your access point from the list.

Then enter the password and click "Connect".

The last step is the proposal to immediately install any applications. Click here CONTINUE.

Then select applications and / or click on "NEXT>".

Finally, confirm the installation of the application by clicking INSTALL.

And after installation click on Finish.

The next step, the system will offer you to activate your Google account. Click Next.

That's it, the setup is complete. You will see the Remix OS desktop.

Installing Remix OS on a USB flash drive

After we looked at installing Remix OS on a computer, let's see how to install this OS on a USB flash drive. With a ready-made flash drive, you can switch from computer to computer. In this case, all your documents, installed applications, games and settings made will be saved on the USB flash drive. Those. your flash drive will be like a portable computer, but without a system unit, monitor, keyboard and mouse, and to work with your OS you will need a donor computer.

Unpack the archive you downloaded. I have this file Remix_OS_for_PC_Android_M_64bit_B2016081502.zip. As a result, I unpacked three files:

        • Remix_OS_for_PC_Installation_Tool-B2016080802.exe - utility for installing Remix OS;
        • Remix_OS_for_PC_Android_M_64bit_B2016081502.iso - Remix OS disk image.
        • How_to_launch_Remix_OS_for_PC.txt - short instructions in English.

Connect an 8GB or higher flash drive to your computer. It is advisable to use a USB flash drive with a write speed of 20MB / s. Run the installation utility (I have this file Remix_OS_for_PC_Installation_Tool-B2016080802.exe). Specify the file with the Remix OS disk image (mine is C: \ Remix_OS \ Remix_OS_for_PC_Android_M_64bit_B2016081502.iso), select the USB device item in the Type field, and your USB flash drive on which you want to install the operating system in the Media field (for me - this is drive G). Click OK.

You will see a warning that all data on the flash drive will be deleted. Click OK.

The rest of the installation is similar to installation on a computer. At the end you will see a window informing you of the successful installation of Remix OS. The flash drive is ready. You can click on the "Restart now" button if you want to use it immediately try the USB flash drive on the same computer, or click on the "Exit" button to close the program. When booting the computer from a prepared Remix OS flash drive, make sure that boot from USB media is enabled in the BIOS.

The first launch and configuration of a computer when using a flash drive occurs in the same way as when installing Remix OS on a computer.

Enabling Russian language and Russian keyboard layout in Remix OS

Now let's enable Russian language support. To do this, double-click on the Settings icon on the desktop and, in the window that opens, find and click on the item " Language & Input».

Here select the topmost item " Language».

And in the list select " Russian».

After that, the system interface will immediately become Russian-speaking, well, at least that part of Android that has remained untouched by the Remix operating system.

To enable support for the Russian-language layout, find in the settings " Language and input" chapter " Physical keyboard"And click on the item" AT Translated Set 2 keyboard"(This may be the name of your physical keyboard, which is different from what you see in the picture).

In the window that appears, click on the button " CUSTOMIZE KEYBOARD LAYOUT».

Select the desired layouts from the list that opens (I chose English and Russian) and go back.

The Layouts dialog will display the layouts you have selected.

That's all the layouts are configured. Change the layout using the keyboard shortcut specified in the dialog CTRL + Space it didn't work for me, but it worked with the combination CTRL + ALT + Space.

I will not write anything else about the Remix OS system. You can explore it yourself after installing it on your computer.

    Outcome

Well, the system turned out to be quite interesting. There really appeared such elements of the user interface, which were lacking in Android for ordinary desktop PCs. But, unfortunately, the Android-x86 system is very moody and may not work on any computer. This flaw is inherited by the Remix OS system. Therefore, before installing it on your computer as a permanent system, nevertheless, first try how it works from a flash drive. And check how the Android apps you actively use work.
