The power button on the phone does not work: reasons - how to fix the situation? We turn on the Android device without the power button Iphone the shutdown button does not work

Any user of Apple technology, and in particular the iPhone, at least once, but faced the problem of rebooting or involuntary shutdown of his smartphone. The phone does not respond to pressing the Home and Power buttons, the touchscreen does not work either ...

Sound familiar? What to do if iPhone freezes and won't turn off? We offer you a detailed guide on how to restart your iPhone from any state.

How to restart iPhone 4,5,6,7 normally?

First, let's remember how to reboot the iPhone in normal mode, when all the functions of the phone are working properly.

You can turn off iPhone 4, 5, 6, 7 by performing the following manipulations:

With this method of restarting the gadget, all programs are saved in the multitasking panel, and after disconnecting the phone, you can easily access all previously launched applications.

How to turn off iPhone if it freezes, or hard restart

How to forcibly turn off the iPhone if it freezes and does not respond to touching the sensor, the lock and Home buttons do not work? In this case, the method of "hard" restarting the iPhone will help you. For this:

This method is practically trouble-free if you are suddenly faced with the problem of turning off your mobile device. But it is worth remembering that this method forces the phone to completely reboot in forced mode, interrupting all processes and programs. That is why it is recommended to use it only in situations where other methods do not work.

Once enabled, the iPhone's multitasking bar will not contain any programs. The cellular and Wi-Fi network connection processes will restart.

How to turn off iPhone without button?

And we come to the most interesting thing - how to turn off the iPhone if the "Home" or "Power" button does not work?

Let's go in order. The creators of the iOS-based technology have thought of methods of shutting down and restarting without the top lock button or the center Home key. The function we need is called "Assistive Touch" and is based on the principle of touching the display.

To get started with this feature, you need to know how to enable Assistive Touch:

  1. You need to go to "Settings" → "General" → "Accessibility".
  2. Next, you need to scroll down the page to the "Interaction" block and select the "Assistive Touch" item.
Or you can go to "Settings" and start writing the word "Assistive" in the search field and the iPhone itself will suggest the necessary item.
  3. The next step is to drag the slider to activate the function we need to the "Enabled" position (on newer versions of iOS, in this position, the background of the slider turns green). After switching on, a square gray-white button should appear on the screen, which is responsible for this functionality.
  4. So, to restart your iPhone without buttons, you need to tap on the sensor within this icon. If everything is done correctly, then it should unfold in the following menu:
  5. Next, you need to press the "Device" button in the menu that opens and hold down the "Screen lock" icon for 2-3 seconds. As a result, you will see the standard iPhone shutdown screen - two buttons "Shutdown" and "Cancel". You already know what to do next.
  6. The last step is to turn on the device - for this you need to connect your phone to your computer, laptop or netbook using a standard USB cable and it will automatically turn on in standard mode.

Other non-standard ways to restart iPhone

If you want to quickly restart your iPhone, we recommend using the following methods:

Bold font

The advantage of this method is its speed. The only change that will occur due to the activation of this function is the change in the font thickness. But if you need to restart your smartphone, performing a minimum of actions, this method is for you.

Reset network settings

The disadvantage of this method is the fact that after restarting you will lose all network data: settings and passwords from the Wi-Fi network, as well as mobile Internet configurations.

Conclusion

This article is aimed at describing the methods and ways to turn off the iPhone from any state: in normal mode, if the smartphone is frozen and does not respond to the sensor and keystrokes, if the "Home" and "Power" buttons do not work. In the course of solving the problems of restarting the device, the method of control using the touch panel was considered - "Assistive Touch", which allows you not only to cope with the problem of turning off the iPhone without using the buttons, but also to set up the control of the iOS device using gestures. It is also worth noting that the above function will not allow you to turn off the iPhone 4,5,6,7 if the display is not working or frozen. In this case, you still have to contact technical specialists.

If you still have any questions regarding the emergency shutdown of your device, then ask them in the comments, and we will make every effort to promptly answer them and help solve the problems that have arisen.

Usually the lock button becomes unusable on iPhone 5, iPhone 4, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 4s.

It is the same: button "power", "power", "sleep / wake up", "turn", "power" .... If it doesn't work, you can't turn off or take a screenshot on your iphone 5, iphone 7, iphone 5s, iphone 6, iphone 4, or iphone 4s.

Apple has even been sued over this issue. Two owners in the United States have sued Apple over this issue, which they believe is caused by poor build.

If you are using the fifth model, then Apple offers a free screen lock button replacement.

On April 25, 2014, the company confirmed that some smartphones have substandard buttons and offered a free exchange.

It's good to hear that Apple is fixing the problem, but you will be disappointed that the exchange is only available to iPhone 5 owners and you have iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s.

If the power button stops working or does not work well (judging by the number of people reading this article, this happens every day - this is added after this post was written) and the warranty has passed, then there are two solutions for you: software and hardware repair (guide below) ...

Screen lock button does not work in iPhone - software solution

IOS has a feature that can when the lock screen or home buttons stop working.

To access this feature, go to Settings> General> Accessibility. At this point, scroll down, click on "AssistiveTouch" and slide the switch to green.

Now a gray square with a white circle appears on the screen. You can drag it anywhere you want.

To access the lock button, tap Device and then tap Lock Screen.

To take a screenshot when the lock button is not working, click "Hardware", then "More" and click on "Screenshot".

Don't worry - the menu and AssistiveTouch button won't be visible in the screenshot.

How to turn off an iPhone with a non-working screen lock button

You can turn off your iPhone even if the lock button is not working. To do this, press the "AssistiveTouch" button, select "Device", and then press and hold the lock screen.

This will display a slider by moving which you can turn off the smartphone, just do not forget that if you do this and the lock button does not work, you will not be able to turn it back on until you connect the phone to a computer or a charging adapter - then it will turn on on its own.

The screen lock button does not work in the iPhone - repair the equipment

I recently looked through online auctions and came across some interesting offers where you could buy an iPhone 4 or 4S at a very attractive price (for a penny), but with a broken screen lock button.

I even took advantage of one of these offers - I bought an iPhone 4S with such a defect. Why? Because repairing a button like this is easier than you think.

Now I decided to write a DIY home screen lock button repair guide - step by step.

Only who wants to repeat, then I am not responsible - everyone does it at their own peril and risk.

You will first need a repair kit and stock up on a piece of white paper to put all the screws and parts on top of it.

Unscrew the 2 screws that are at the bottom next to the charging socket, then gently slide the back cover off.

After removing the cover, you will see the following picture.

Now you need to unscrew 10 screws - their location is indicated by arrows.

As soon as you remove the screws, disconnect the battery (arrow 1), the charging dock (arrow 2) and the screen (metal plate, arrow 3).

Now it's time to remove the camera (arrow 1), the next tapes (arrows 2,3,4) and get rid of the metal plate (arrow 5).

After that, unscrew the following screws (arrows 1,2,3,4), cables (arrows 5,6), tape (arrow 7) and remove the black tape and unscrew the hidden screw (arrow 8).

Now unscrew the hidden screw (arrow 1) and carefully try to pull the main board out of the case.

I remind you that you need to remove the SIM tray in advance. Otherwise, you may damage something.

After removing the motherboard, the following appears:

Now unscrew two more screws.

Carefully pull out the switch together with the plastic to which it is glued, as shown:

As you can see below, there is no tiny "black grain" - this is why the "lock screen" button does not work most of the time.

You need to find something to replace it or buy a new button with a loop.

After repairing or buying a new one, you can start assembling your iPhone 4S in reverse order.

It seems to me that the manual was written to be self-explanatory and anyone with a bit of persistence can handle the button repair thanks to it.

The fourth model (without "S") with the same symptom can be repaired in the same way.

That's all. Next time I will describe the repair process on other models. Wish you success.

At some point, it may happen that the power key of your Android phone or tablet fails. Today we will tell you what to do if such a device needs to be turned on.

There are several methods for starting a device without a power button, but they depend on how the device is turned off: it is completely turned off or is in sleep mode. In the first case, it will be more difficult to cope with the problem, in the second, accordingly, it will be easier. Let's consider the options in order.

Option 1: Completely off device

If your device is turned off, you can start it using recovery mode or ADB.

Recovery
If your smartphone or tablet is turned off (for example, after the battery is discharged), you can try to activate it by entering the recovery mode. This is how it is done.

Wait for the system to boot and either use the device or use the programs described below to reassign the power button.

If you know for sure that YUSB debugging is disabled, then use the recovery method. If debugging is active, you can proceed to the steps described below.

In addition to command line control, the ADB Run application is also available, which allows you to automate the procedures for working with the Android Debag Bridge. It can also be used to force the device to reboot with a faulty power button.

Both recovery and ADB are not a complete solution to the problem: these methods allow you to start the device, but it can enter sleep mode. Let's take a look at how to wake up the device if this happens.

Option 2: The device is in sleep mode

If your phone or tablet has entered sleep mode and the power button is damaged, you can start the device in the following ways.

Connect to charger or PC
The most versatile way. Almost all Android devices wake up when plugged into a charger. This statement is also true for connecting to a computer or laptop via USB. However, this method should not be abused: firstly, the connection socket on the device may fail; secondly, constant connection / disconnection to the mains negatively affects the state of the battery.

Calling the device
When you receive an incoming call (regular or Internet telephony), your smartphone or tablet wakes up from sleep mode. This method is more convenient than the previous one, however, it is not very elegant, and it is not always possible to implement it.

Wake up with a tap on the screen
In some devices (for example, from LG, ASUS), the wake-up function is implemented by touching the screen: double-tap on it with your finger and the phone will wake up from sleep mode. Unfortunately, it is not easy to implement this option on unsupported devices.

Reassigning the power button
The best way out of the situation (except for replacing the button, of course) would be to transfer its functions to any other button. These include all kinds of programmable keys (like calling the Bixby voice assistant on the latest Samsung) or volume buttons. We will leave the issue of programmable keys for another article, but for now let's look at the Power Button to Volume Button application.

Please note that on Xiaomi devices it may be necessary to fix the app in memory so that the process manager does not disable it.

Sensor wake-up
If the method described above does not suit you for some reason, there are applications that allow you to control the device using sensors: an accelerometer, gyroscope or proximity sensor. The most popular solution for this is Gravity Screen.

Despite its great capabilities, the application has several significant disadvantages. The first is the limitations of the free version. The second is the increased battery consumption due to the constant use of sensors. Third, some options are not supported on some devices, while other features may require root access.

Conclusion

As you can see, a device with a faulty power button can still be used. At the same time, we note that no solution is ideal, therefore, we recommend that you, if possible, still replace the button, yourself or by contacting a service center.

Sometimes users complain that the power button on their phone is not working. Why does this happen? How to fix the situation? How dangerous is this phenomenon? All this will be discussed further. In fact, it's easy to understand. Especially if the power button is to blame.

Battery

The first scenario is quite common. Moreover, it has nothing to do with the breakdown. Why isn't the power button on my phone working? The most common battery of the device may be to blame. The thing is that an insufficient amount of battery power makes the smartphone inoperative.

Because of this, it turns out that the power button does not work. In fact, this is not the case. It is enough to turn on the phone to the network for a few minutes, and then try again to work with the equipment. If the problem lies in a low battery, then everything will work.

Real damage

But this is just the beginning. In fact, many users are confused by situations in which the power button on their phone does not work, and when the device simply does not turn on. Basically, the result is the same - the gadget becomes a useless piece of plastic and iron.

In some cases, the power button can actually break. This is a very common problem. It is found mainly among those who either work inaccurately with the device, or use it for a long time. This is due to normal wear and tear.

If the problem is really a breakdown, you can get your mobile phone repaired. Repairs are carried out in specialized centers. As a rule, for a certain fee it will be possible to pick up a working smartphone with normally functioning buttons.

Sometimes the equipment cannot be repaired. What then? If the power button on the phone is broken, so much so that it cannot be returned to work, you will have to buy a new gadget. Fortunately, this alignment is not very common. Usually, you can easily go to a service center to fix your phone.

Software problems

Power button on your phone not working? As already mentioned, users often confuse the disruption of the smartphone and the breakdown of the gadget control buttons. The second alignment is exclusively mechanical damage. Usually they are either corrected at service centers, or lead to the need to purchase a new phone.

If we consider the problem not as a refusal of the power button to work, but as the fact that the smartphone itself does not work, the reasons may lie, for example, in software failures. For example, phone settings get confused under some circumstances. Or viruses damage the gadget's OS. Then it won't turn on. Or it will constantly turn off. At the same time, the power button will not work either, nor will it respond to commands sent.

The situation is resolved in the presence of suspicions of a software failure in several ways. Namely:

  1. Re-flashing the phone. It is carried out either independently or in service centers. It is better for novice users to entrust their mobile phone to professionals. Repair, expressed by firmware, is carried out in a few minutes. The gadget will work in full force.
  2. By setting up the equipment that is already on. Usually, users themselves carry out the so-called "Hard Reset", and then begin to adjust the operation of the device. The power button should work after resetting the phone settings to the initial level.
  3. Scanning the smartphone for viruses and further getting rid of malware. If the gadget has already turned off, and it turned out that the power button on the phone does not work, it is best to return the equipment to a service center. They will quickly help fix the situation.

All this helps with crashes caused by the phone's operating system or its software. But that's not all. It is necessary to get acquainted with other options for the development of events.

External influence

Why else might it seem that the power button on the phone is not working? It is likely that the device has been negatively impacted. And this led to either system crashes or hardware damage. Because of this, the power button may actually not work.

For example, the phone was dropped into water. Or the gadget fell from a height to the floor. These reasons lead to damage to the smartphone. And it stops working. In the first case, you need to disassemble the phone as soon as possible and dry its components. After that, collect and try to turn it on. In the second, it is better to immediately contact the service center if a malfunction is detected in the navigation buttons of the phone.

Outcomes

What conclusions can be drawn? The power button on the phone does not work often due to the fact that the gadget itself refuses to function. The most common reasons for this behavior are:

  • mechanical damage;
  • manufacturing defects;
  • external negative impact on the phone;
  • low battery power;
  • viruses on the phone;
  • system failure;
  • the need for a flashing.

If you find problems with turning on the phone, it is recommended to charge the battery, try to work with the smartphone again, and then take the device to a service center. This is the surest way to fix equipment.

Oddly enough, but users ask such questions quite often. They all try to turn on their smartphone by pressing the power key, but nothing happens. It is generally accepted that in this case the power button simply does not work. But is it really so?

Not in all cases. Yes, pressing the POWER key may indeed not turn on the smartphone, but that does not mean that the button itself is the problem. We know of cases when a similar problem occurred as a result of a software failure, and after the gadget was still launched, no problems with the key were observed anymore. It's another matter if you dropped the phone and after that it stopped responding to pressing mechanical keys - it cannot be ruled out that there may be a breakdown. However, first things first.

Try to turn on your smartphone

The first thing you need to do is press and hold the power key. How much time? It may take 10-20 seconds, and if nothing happens, hold the button for a minute or even longer. Practice shows that this often helps.

Press the volume down or volume up keys

Many users know that to force reboot or shutdown of an Android smartphone, they usually press the power key, as well as the volume down or volume up keys. Here we advise you to first press the volume down key and POWER simultaneously for 10-20 seconds to turn on the smartphone.

If it doesn't help, do the same, but instead of the volume down key, press the volume up key and POWER for the same 10-20 seconds.

In this case, the smartphone can turn on in one of the modes, usually this is the mode. This is good, because it says that the problem is definitely not in the power button.

Now you need to restart your smartphone. This can be done using the menu item Reboot or Reboot system now.

How? The answer is below.

Use charging

If the previous two options did not help you, use the charger: just connect the switched off device to it so that the smartphone starts charging. After a while, it should turn on, and in normal mode. Alas, this method does not work in all cases.

But there is another way that almost always works. Take the charger, connect it to the mains, then hold down the volume up or down key on the smartphone (depending on which key combination is used on your device to load the recovery menu), and connect it to the charger using a cable, while continuing to hold the adjustment key sound, for example:

What's next? We need to open the recovery menu, so we are waiting for it to load, and it should load if you did everything right. Next, in the recovery, select the item Reboot or Reboot system now - using the mechanical sound adjustment button. As a rule, the choice of action is carried out with the POWER key, but it does not work for us. How to be? Select Reboot or Reboot system now and just wait - within 15-20 minutes this menu item will be selected automatically and the smartphone will reboot in normal mode.

Users say that this method also works when you connect your smartphone to a computer or laptop.

Well, if you have TWRP recovery, consider yourself lucky - just click on the Reboot item (touch controls are used).

Using special applications

We will tell you about an application that allows you to turn on your smartphone using the volume keys - in case you were able to turn on your smartphone.

We go to the Play Market and use the search to find the Power button to Volume Button application. Download it, install it.

We launch the application, put a tick next to the Start Volume Power on boot up item, and also click on the gear so that the message Volume Power is currently ebabled appears.

It should work. True, judging by the reviews, not all versions of Android work.

Reboot your smartphone using the command line

The most difficult way that requires certain knowledge.

If USB debugging is enabled, try loading the gadget in recovery mode using the command line - the ADB reboot recovery command will help.

This, of course, is not a solution to the problem, since the smartphone can only boot into the recovery menu, which is already good - with its help, for example, you can select the Reboot item, that is, "Reboot" and the smartphone will boot in normal mode, as described above.
