How to set up the choice of SIM cards for calling on Huawei P10 Plus and similar android smartphones and tablets. How to set up the choice of SIM cards for calling on Huawei P10 Plus and similar android smartphones and tablets Appearance and usability

To use all the functions of the Honor smartphone, you need to insert a SIM card. It provides the ability to connect to the network of a cellular operator and allows you to make calls (which is quite obvious). However, when buying a new phone, you may have difficulty installing a SIM card.

This is what we'll talk about in this article. First of all, we will tell you about the different types of SIM cards. Then what you need to know before installing a SIM card in your Honor smartphone. Finally, we'll explain how to install it.

Honor is one of those devices running on the Android operating system and supporting two SIM cards. This feature is not very popular in Russia, but is in good demand in the rest of the world.

There are 3 types of SIM cards. Their main difference is in size. The following types can be distinguished:

  • Regular SIM: Standard size.
  • Micro SIM: smaller than usual.
  • Nano SIM: very small - almost the same size as the chip.

If you do not have a SIM-card for Honor, then you can buy it at any communication store. And, if you have a regular SIM, then you can make Micro SIM or Nano SIM out of it. Also, to solve problems with the compatibility of SIM-cards, there are various adapters.

There are many different slots in modern smartphones, which can be difficult to determine in which one the SIM card is inserted. The bottom slot (SIM 1) only supports regular SIMs and micro-SIMs. And the top slot (SIM 2) can insert a nano-SIM. There is also a micro SD slot nearby.

How to insert a SIM card into an Honor smartphone? 2 ways

There are two possible procedures for installing a SIM card, depending on your Honor smartphone model. They are listed below.

Installing a SIM card in the side slot

Before installing the SIM card, you first need to find and open the slot on the side of the phone. Usually there is a small hole next to it, into which you need to insert a pointed object.

To do this, you can use a special paper clip that comes with your smartphone, a paper clip, a needle, and other sharp, strong enough objects. After you insert it into the hole, the SIM card slot will open. Remove it from the slot, insert the SIM card into it, and put the card tray back into the slot. Everything!

Installing the SIM card into the slot under the back cover

If your phone doesn't have a side SIM card slot, then that means it's under the back cover. To remove the cover, loosen the cover with your fingertips.

After that, you need to find the location of the slot. In some cases, it is located under the battery. If so, then you should turn off the power of the phone. Insert the SIM card into the slot. When installing, do not forget that the chip should be at the bottom. Reassemble everything in reverse order. Ready!

Huawei has always been perceived in Russia as a Chinese manufacturer of low-cost devices. But over time, their products, as well as attitudes towards them, have changed, and at the moment the flagships are in no way inferior to competitors, both in characteristics and in price.

Competition in the middle price range of the market is gaining momentum by leaps and bounds. Each manufacturer is trying to lure a “gullible” buyer with some feature at a bargain price, but even here the segmentation of the gadget line becomes more affordable and flagship.

Against the backdrop of all this, back in 2013, Huawei introduced a new youth brand Honor. Devices under this brand are focused on the middle price segment, differ from the main products of the concern with an interesting design at a more affordable price.

One of the most interesting examples of a mid-range flagship is our newcomer, announced on October 24 this year in Paris - Honor 8 (factory index - FRD-L09).

Equipment

The original packaging was made for the Honor 8. She looks expensive, neat and at the same time does not shout about "premium". The box is shaped like a pencil case, in which the device is located in an unusual way. The gadget is inserted into the slot and when unpacking we see only the side. Pulling on the "tongue" of the inner spacer, we find a standard set for any modern smartphone: instructions, charger, USB Type C cable and a paper clip to access the SIM card slot and Micro SD. Headsets, alas, are not provided.

Design

One of the main strengths of the Honor 8 is its design. Without knowing the brand, you can easily confuse this phone with more eminent competitors.

The body is made of glass and metal. The aluminum alloy frame is covered on both sides with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 with 2.5D technology. All corners are rounded off and the only protruding parts are the volume rocker and power button on the right side of the device.

Even one of the distinguishing features of this smartphone - the dual camera, equipped with laser autofocus and dual LED flash, is hidden under the rear glass. All this gives the Honor 8 a complete and respectable look, worthy of the best praise. Unless ... add a drop of ointment.

Prioritized design beauty brings the danger of the gadget slipping out of your hands and any other surface wherever you put it. Be careful!

The rear-mounted fingerprint reader is recessed and positioned for right-handed and left-handed use. The index finger always hits it, which is convenient in everyday use. The scanner, in addition to the main unlocking function, is at the same time a button with additional functions that can be customized for yourself. Actually, you can use three actions: tap, double tap and press + hold to invoke an application or action. A very convenient and original solution!

The front side of the smartphone does not differ in the originality of the arrangement of the elements. By tradition, all of them are located above the display in order from left to right: a front camera, proximity and ambient light sensors, an earpiece and an LED for indicating events built into the speaker opening.

As for the build quality, there is no doubt about it. The body looks and feels monolithic. There can be no question of any creaking.

In view of the desire to make the device more versatile, all manufacturers began to equip smartphones with a module for two SIM cards. But here it was not without "raisins" - you can simultaneously use two SIM-cards or "SIM" + Micro SD, which greatly limits the functionality.

Display

According to this parameter, Honor 8 follows the trend of smartphone building. The phone is equipped with an IPS-matrix covered with durable Corning Gorilla Glass 3, measuring 5.2 inches with a comfortable resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a density of 423 dots per square inch. Since the navigation keys are located on the screen itself, approximately five inches of usable space is available to the user.

The screen has a high enough brightness and contrast so as not to fade in sunlight, and the natural color reproduction and wide viewing angles do not spoil the picture in almost any position relative to the eyes. True, with large deviations from the normal position, the screen is prone to transmitting cold shades.

The multi-touch display sensor honestly supports 10 simultaneous touches, and the oleophobic coating resists grease stains for a long time and preserves the original look of the device. Also, the gadget has a mode of operation with gloves, but they need to be used at your own peril and risk, because in gloves it becomes completely elusive and is ready to slip away at the first opportunity.

Specifications Honor 8 (FRD-L09)

  • GSM (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz), HSPA + up to 42 Mbps, LTE Cat. 6 up to 300 Mbps (FDD bands: 1, 3, 7, 8, 20; TDD bands: 38, 40)
  • Supports simultaneous installation of two SIM-cards of the Nano SIM standard
  • Wi-Fi (802.11 a / b / g / n / ac, 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz), Bluetooth 4.2
  • navigation by GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS

Performance

In terms of performance, Honor 8 can compete with more eminent gadgets. A powerful processor, fast graphics accelerator and four gigabytes of RAM will allow you to comfortably use your smartphone not only for its intended purpose, but also for entertainment.

When launching modern games, there will be no discomfort due to the convulsive adjustment of the appropriate graphic settings of modern games to the capabilities of the device. At the moment, all toys can be launched on Honor 8 with maximum parameters, which will delight lovers of beautiful graphics and detailed gameplay.

The synthetic benchmark results of the Honor 8 are shown below.

Also, any user will be pleased with the availability of LTE Cat support on board. 6, with which you can forget about the existence of Wi-Fi. The latter, by the way, has nice features in this device. The function, called "Wi-Fi +", automatically monitors the signal strength of both Wi-Fi and mobile Internet for data transmission and selects the most optimal one for stable Internet access. Thus, by connecting Wi-Fi +, the smartphone will always use the fastest Internet line available.

With regard to navigation capabilities, the smartphone is equipped with all available means of communication with satellites. Its location is determined by the device almost instantly, so you will not wander in search of a way out of the maze of the urban jungle.

Returning to the main function of a smartphone, namely telephone communication, it should be mentioned the fact that it provides work with two SIM-cards at the same time.

This is because the device uses two separate radio modules.

This function has been implemented very conveniently: during parallel conversations, you can quickly switch from one interlocutor to another by pressing one key.

The connection itself has no complaints, the signal is stable, and noise cancellation works for a solid five. Both interlocutors will communicate comfortably without much interference. In addition, there are additional tricks to improve communication with the not cunning name "Signal +". The function allows you to receive signals in all directions, thereby improving the quality of voice communications and reducing the percentage of network connection interruptions.

As with all multi-SIM phones, Honor 8 has the ability to distribute calls, data transfers and SMS messages between SIM-cards according to personal preferences.

Software

The smartphone is preinstalled with the latest available operating system from Google - 64-bit version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Huawei's own EMUI 4.1 shell.

The EMUI graphical shell developed by Huawei specialists significantly changes the native interface of the operating system. At the same time, everything works smoothly, quickly and without any interruptions, which is facilitated by productive hardware. Visually, everything is very beautiful and intuitive. Swiping down from the top brings up the notification timeline and phone feature icons.

You can also set the style of the home screen: "Normal", in which the icons of applications and widgets on the home screen are displayed as standard, and "Simple" with a minimum of applications and large icons.

Modern smartphone users are not only lovers of surfing the World Wide Web, but also lovers of listening to good music on the way to the bright and beautiful. And Honor 8 will be a good companion for them in this. The built-in player, although it has no sound settings, pleases with high-quality sound - it does not distort the sound track, and if all this is supplemented with good "ears", then you will be provided with a good musical accompaniment.

Cameras

The main dual camera in a mid-range phone is becoming a trend and good form of any self-respecting manufacturer.

As the manufacturer says:

“The Honor 8 features a dual-sensor camera, RGB and B / W, with a pixel size of 1.25 nm. Two lenses of the main camera with a resolution of 12 megapixels increase the quality and detail of images. "

This Honor 8 module came from Huawei P9, only without the participation of the famous Leica company.

The trick of this camera is that one sensor is responsible for color and the other (monochrome) for brightness. The information received from both sensors is processed by the software and summarized in the final image. All this helps to achieve good color reproduction and detail.

There is a laser rangefinder for focusing. There is also a dual flash with "cold" and "warm" LEDs. For the sake of completeness, the only thing missing is image stabilization.

We take the originals of all the examples given.

The front camera in the smartphone is an 8-megapixel sensor with a fixed focus and no additional flash. Natural color reproduction and good detail will not disappoint selfie lovers. And for those who wish to be irresistible, the "Enhance" function has been added, which can smooth out all the troubles in the resulting photos.

Standard selfie

Enhance Selfie

As for the settings, then there is something to indulge with even a sophisticated photographer. After launching the camera and swiping the screen to the right, we find ourselves in a selection of modes, where, in addition to the standard set of preset settings in the form of: night shooting, panorama, HDR, etc., we will find the "Pro" mode. Moreover, both for photos and videos. By choosing it, we will be able to control almost any parameter in real time.

The "Pro" includes the following settings: focus point selection (center point, center-weighted and the entire screen field), we can set sensitivity, shutter speed, exposure setting, focus selection (automatic with aperture priority, auto with shutter priority and manual focus ) and, of course, the white balance setting.

In addition to shooting modes, there are additional settings caused by swiping the screen to the left. Here are located - frame resolutions, GPS tag, grid, timer and other settings standard for most smartphones.

Both cameras, front and back, are capable of shooting video with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels at 30 or 60 frames. The resulting videos have a good picture without noticeable distortions and artifacts. Noise reduction works at the proper level.

Below is an example of a 60fps video. Full HD resolution.

Battery life

The battery capacity of the Honor 8 is 3000 mAh, which gives a good battery life. With everyday use of the device in the following modes: conversation for 30-40 minutes, Internet via Wi-Fi / LTE ~ 4-6 hours and a little photo / video art - it will be enough for a full working day.

With games, the situation is not changing for the better. Since the gadget allows you to play all modern titles with maximum settings, charging will be enough for 3-4 hours of active gameplay.

With all this, the developers claim that using the proprietary energy-saving technology Smart Power 4.0, "the smartphone provides up to 1.77 days of operation with normal use and up to 1.22 with intensive use" and this seems to be true.

Outcome

Having spent several weeks in the company with a smartphone, I can say that Honor 8 has gone beyond the middle class in all respects and approached the flagships. It combines everything that is necessary in the modern communication world: excellent mobile communication, a smart navigator, sufficient autonomy, performance and a pleasant design. Which suggests: "Is it worth overpaying for the flagship?"

However, despite all its advantages, the device remains a representative of the middle segment, since the top segment is ahead of our newcomer in its capabilities. Also, for someone, the price can be a minus. It is slightly higher than that of competitors in the class.

Pros:

  • Beautiful modern design, body made of quality materials
  • Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS with user-friendly EMUI 4.1 shell
  • Hardware performance
  • A camera with great creative possibilities
  • Longer battery life
  • Fingerprint scanner with additional functions button

Minuses:

  • Case susceptibility to scratches
  • The case is so slippery that it tries to slip off any surface
  • There is no way to use two SIM cards and a flash drive at the same time
  • Quite controversial for the middle class - 27,990 rubles.

Already on sale Price: 27 990 rubles

Don't know how on your smartphone or tablet make it so that when you call, a choice of SIM cards is offered? In this article, you will learn how to set up on Huawei so that when they called it was possible to choose sim 1 or sim 2, or make it so that when you call the call goes only from the selected sim card. Perhaps the instructions for setting up SIM cards for calling Huawei P10 Plus will work with other android devices as well.

So that when calling from Huawei to Android, the choice of a SIM card is offered or to configure one of the two SIM cards, do the following: Open "Settings" on the phone, then select the item "SIM card settings" in the menu that opens. Now in the window that opens, click on "Calls by default" and select "Always ask" (or something similar), if you need calls from a specific SIM card, then select the desired SIM card.

On some tablets and smartphones for android, so that there is a choice of a SIM card when making a call, such as Samsung, do this: Open on Android "Settings", select the item "SIM-card manager, then" Voice call "and" Always ask. " If you wish, you can choose from two SIM cards, one with which the call will be made.

  • Hope the information helped to solve the problem on your device.
  • We will be glad if you leave a review, useful information or advice on the topic of the article.

The design of Honor 8 is kept in line with the main trends of the last couple of years. The smartphone was made very thin, it got rounded edges, soft corners. The "inspirer" of such a design is immediately apparent, but you shouldn't name it.

The main feature of the device is that both sides, front and back, are filled with glass. The manufacturer is talking about 2.5D glass, but, I must admit, we did not really understand what this means. The main thing is that it looks impressive and looks solid enough. The glass layer is quite thick.

It also clearly has an oleophobic coating. Fingerprints are almost invisible.

The smartphone has a clearly metal chassis. It should reliably protect glass surfaces in case the smartphone falls to the edge. Of course, if the device falls flat, there will be damage, so a cover or bumper is required.

We were provided with the device in gold color, but there are also black, white and gray ones.

Overall, the gadget is very comfortable and stylish. The design can be given the highest grade.

Connectors and controls

Honor 8 has no hardware buttons on the bezel

Above the display, you can see the earpiece, as well as the sensor windows and the front camera. Android buttons are virtual and take up some of the usable space on the display.

On the back there is a dual camera with flashes, as well as a fingerprint scanner. The fingerprint scanner works quite quickly, both when adding a new finger and counting.

Fingerprints are added in the standard way. First, the user sets a PIN or password, then scans the fingerprint. The main functions of the scanner are to unlock the display, as well as access protected data or applications.

There are also additional functions. For example, using a scanner, swiping from top to bottom, you can call the notification panel, and from right to left - flip through photos in the gallery. At the same time, these functions work without adding a fingerprint. Our video will tell you more about the fingerprint scanner:

There is an on / off button on the right side of the smartphone.

Left compartment for SIM-card and microSD.

It opens with a special key. The key is in the complex. The compartment is double. That is, the user can insert either two nanoSIMs, or one SIM card and a memory card. Watch the video on how to insert a SIM card in Honor 8:

At the bottom there is a speakerphone, a headphone jack and a USB Type-C port.

A microphone is visible at the top, as well as another black circle with a larger diameter. It is an IR transmitter that allows your smartphone to act as a remote control.

Packaging and delivery set

The smartphone comes in a white box with gold embossed brand and model name. The box is made of very high quality thick cardboard. The packaging itself can be called "innovative". First, it opens from the end. The internal block leaves the outer case.

Unlike other packages, the smartphone is inserted into the side of the indoor unit and protrudes slightly from it. The device itself is protected by a plastic cover.

Likewise, separate boxes contain a charger and other accessories.

There are not many of them. In addition to the smartphone, a charger, USB cable, a key for the SIM compartment and a small book with instructions for quick start are supplied.

Case for Honor 8

Honor is a serious brand promoted by Huawei, so it's easy to buy a cover or cover for the Honor 8. There are at least three protection options for the smartphone body. Considering that the device has glass surfaces, this is very important.

One of the simpler options is the plastic bumper for the Honor 8. It covers the sides and back cover. Attaches to the corners. The cover is transparent, but it is painted to match the main colors of the smartphone body. It costs 590 rubles.

The artificial leather case covers the front panel of the smartphone. There is a window that leaves a part of the display open. Through it, you can control the gadget. Also in the settings you can find the corresponding template for the lock screen. Such a cover is offered for 990 rubles.

The glass Honor 8 is actually very beautiful. It's nice to hold it in your hands. I don't want to hide beauty under covers. However, there is a danger that the glass surface, especially on the back, will be quickly damaged. The film for 290 rubles is guaranteed to protect it from scratches. Perhaps, it will increase the chances that the device will survive the fall without damage.

Honor 8 screen

Honor 8 received a 5.2-inch display. It is based on low temperature LCD technology. The LTPS screen has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, which gives us a pixel density of 423 ppi.

The screen is very clear. Pixelation is imperceptible. His color rendition is also good, at least subjectively. The colors are juicy.

The brightness of the display does not occupy. It is quite contrasting. Overall, the screen is good. It is clear that today cool devices have a resolution higher than that of Honor 8, but for its diagonal it is very decent.

The Honor 8's display settings are standard for a device of this class. It is possible to adjust the brightness, including automatic. The phone also allows you to adjust the color temperature of the display. You can do it manually, you can use two presets. Finally, there is a blue filter that can reduce eye fatigue at night.

Let's turn to objective tests. The brightness of white was 487.57 cd / m2, which is quite a lot. Black brightness - 0.35 cd / m2. The contrast ratio of the screen turned out to be very high: 1393: 1. The display will not get lost in daylight or even in the sun.

The color temperature of the Honor 8's screen is, as usual, too high, but here we would call it too high. The 9500K level gives too cold colors. Fortunately, it can be adjusted in the screen settings.

The color gamut diagram shows a good margin in comparison with sRGB, which is typical for IPS matrices.

The gamma curves of the Honor 8 are very close to the reference, but not exactly a good indicator that the curve itself walks too much.

Honor 8 only supports two touches. This is not exactly a pleasant surprise, but it shows why the gadget, with other outstanding characteristics, has a price tag.

Honor 8 has two cameras, or rather, in fact, three. That's right, the smartphone has a dual main camera.

It has a resolution of 12 megapixels, an LED flash, and Full HD recording. This is another marketing limitation. We think that the hardware platform of Honor 8 is quite capable of recording 4K video as well. The front camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels and can also record Full HD video.

Dual camera Honor 8 is made using Huawei technology. One of the sensors is monochrome, the other is color. The monochrome sensor is used to expand the dynamic range, and it also allows you to increase the clarity of the picture. Finally, it achieves the bokeh effect - blurring the background.

The Honor 8's main camera interface is simple and intuitive. On one side there is a shutter button, switching between video and photo, as well as a preview window. On the other hand, there are icons for changing the camera, calling filters, controlling the flash and the Wide aperture mode.

In wide aperture mode, the user can manually control its value. To obtain a blurred background, it is recommended to shoot subjects at a distance of two meters. By decreasing the aperture value, the photographer may blur the background. Also, aperture control can be useful when shooting in manual mode in low light conditions. The depth of field of a photo taken in this way can then be changed in the Gallery.

If you swipe from left to right in the camera interface, the modes window will appear. They are well known from previous devices, here and face decoration, and food photography, and professional mode. Modes are displayed simultaneously, both for photo and video.

The right swipe brings up the settings. Here you can select the image resolution, enable geotags, timer, smile detector and more.

In video mode, the interface is the same as in the photo, only the Wide aperture icon disappears.

The camcorder has fewer settings.

The organization of the front camera interface is similar to the main one. There is no Wide aperture, but there is backlight control. Instead of a flash, the smartphone can turn on the display at maximum brightness.

The choice of modes is slightly less than that of the main camera, for example, there is no professional one here.

Photo settings are identical for both cameras. But the video settings for the front camera are practically absent.

The main camera allows you to take a 12-megapixel picture.

The Honor 8's main camera shoots well. The second black-and-white module improves focusing accuracy and also expands the dynamic range of the image. The device copes well with contrasting scenes. There are probably no big light restrictions for the camera. The bokeh effect is also in place.

The front camera has a maximum of 8 megapixels. But it should be noted that if you turn on the display backlight, the image resolution automatically drops to 1600x1200 (2 MP).

The front camera, of course, does not do its job well. There are problems with focusing here, as well as a strange decrease in the resolution of the picture when the screen backlight is turned on. At the same time, it should be noted that photographs of close objects came out better than general shots, therefore, selfies should turn out well.

The Honor 8's main camera can record Full HD video, but other resolutions are available. There is also Full HD at 60 fps.

The video quality is good.

The front camera can record Full HD. By default, when you turn on the front camera, the Face Beautification mode is always activated, which reduces the video resolution to 720p.

Honor 8 came out a long time ago, but at the time of release, its platform was far from weak. And in 2017 it remains relevant, as well as in the next couple of years it will provide a fairly high level of performance.

Honor 8 received a HiSilicon Kirin 950 processor. The chip is quite fast and powerful. It has two clusters with Cortex-A72 and Cortex-A53 cores. The first cluster operates at 2.3 GHz, the second at 1.8 GHz. We tested the chip before, and it showed good results.

The Mali-T880 MP4 graphics are not the latest generation, but they should also provide great gaming performance.

Additional "support" for the hardware platform will be provided by 4 GB of RAM. This is still quite a lot for smartphones in this price range. Also more unspoken "norm" and the storage capacity. The device is offered in versions for 32 and 64 GB. With support for microSD memory cards up to 128GB, you can get a lot of space for photos, videos and other content.

I would also like to draw your attention to the support for LTE of the sixth category, which provides download speeds up to 300 Mbps. In comparison with gigabit chipsets, there are not so many, but it is worth remembering that many manufacturers are still limited to the fourth category, and not all operators guarantee 300 Mbps.

Other wireless modules did not disappoint either. Bluetooth is at version 4.2 and WI-Fi supports 802.11 ac. You can also note the presence of NFC and an infrared port for using the gadget in the remote control. Previously, Huawei had such a set only in the top-end Mate.

It has already been said about the camera. It is quite good, the dual camera technology works well and gives the same results. The screen is of high quality, however, the sensor is clearly saved. It only supports two touches.

The only thing that is a little confusing is the 3000 mAh battery capacity. I would like a little more. Autonomy will be largely determined by energy saving technologies.

Performance testing

Honor 8 has become a rival. The Korean device came out later and looked very decent, while leaving a great impression. However, formally its characteristics are worse than Honor 8: lower frequency, weaker graphics, less RAM. Let's see how the gadgets perform in tests.

In Basemark tests, the difference in frequencies manifests itself to the full. The Honor 8 scores twice or more than Samsung.

The JetStream browser benchmark is sensitive to both processor frequency and memory. And here Honor 8 again has a twofold advantage.

In PCMark, the Honor 8's advantage is less, but there is no doubt who is faster.

Honor 8 in Antutu

Finally, in the comprehensive AnTuTu test, the Honor 8 scores 1.5 times the Samsung. There are no more questions about which smartphone is more productive. Let's see how things are with autonomy.

Our test for autonomy includes the same set of actions, covering various types of user activity. Then we compare the level of the remaining battery charge. The battery capacity of smartphones is the same, but you have to pay for higher frequencies: Honor 8 has 73% of the charge left, Samsung - 82%. Overall, Honor's result is not good, but frankly bad either. In real life, it means that the "outlet" must always be borne in mind.

What loads the battery the most. It turned out that the Honor 8 has too much consumption in games. 3D graphics consume the most. Also confusing is the high expense when reading and listening to music. Probably, the processor consumes a lot in the background, and the display backlight also requires energy.

The Honor 8 Phone Companion offers power saving management tools. There are three modes of operation of the gadget: from productive to economical. You can separately lower the screen resolution to 1280x720 without affecting the processor settings. This option can be useful when playing games: to improve performance, you can sacrifice resolution. 1280x720 with a diagonal of 5.2 inches still provides under 300 ppi.

We also liked the optimization option with hints. The device shows what actions can be taken to extend the battery life and assesses the increase in autonomy from this or that action.

As usual, it is possible to forcibly disable applications in the background and configure exceptions for this mode.

Games on Honor 8

The Honor 8 is fast enough and should be fun to play with. Especially if you have a spare battery or an outlet not far away, judging by our tests.

All Honor 8 games performed at the highest mark, with the exception of two, which simply did not start. You can and should play.

ON

Honor 8 came out with Android 6.0 and proprietary EMUI 4.1 interface. However, an update to Android 7.0 and EMUI 5.0 is already available.

The interface has three main home screens. You can add as many more as you like. There is no application menu, all of them are on the home screens.

The user can choose the layout of the home screen. The two main options are with and without an application menu. You can also customize themes and their individual parameters.

And this is how the home screen looks with the application menu.

Google apps are put in a separate folder. There is nothing new and breakthrough here.

In the Tools there are two, not so much new as rare. Let us dwell on them separately. This is Smart Tag and Remote Control.

The Smart Tag tool uses the NFC module. The user can create a preset from the smartphone settings, including the alert mode, Wi-Fi, etc. This setting is linked to an NFC RFID tag, which can be flashed through a smartphone. The recorded mark is installed at the entrance to the house or on the car door. A smartphone with NFC enabled reads it and applies the settings automatically.

The presence of an infrared port in the Honor 8 allows it to be used as a universal remote control. A wide range of equipment is supported: from TVs to cameras and air conditioners. You need to download the preset and then test it for compatibility with your smartphone. If everything works, you can control the TV from your smartphone.

The Health app is another Honor proprietary feature, but it's not located in Tools. The app is a fitness tracker. You can set goals, track your workouts. Separately, we can note the ingenious algorithm for converting calories burned into understandable products.

Honor 8 comes with a set of additional pre-installed software. Many applications have already become familiar to Huawei and Honor products. But some have appeared relatively recently.

We also note corporate notes. It can contain bookmarks, photos, images and text.

The Honor 8 has the Mopria Print Service. Using the application, you can find the nearest open printer, get settings for it and send a document for printing directly from your phone.

Yandex is a veteran of Russian-language Android interfaces. The application supports search and duplicates the content of the Yandex start page.

The Opera browser may be better than Chrome for many. Turbo pages, VPN and some other features are supported here. True, their engine is actually the same as the standard Google browser. But our site is displayed correctly.

Huawei Devices is a shortcut for Huawei's online store, where you can buy devices and branded accessories from Honor.

Booking can also be found on many Honor devices. The service is the most popular for booking hotels.

Shazam is the new pre-installed app for Honor. It allows you to define the melody playing on the radio.

The Sberbank application is also installed on Honor 8. If the user is already a client of the largest bank, he just needs to log in. You can make payments, participate in promotions, etc.

Honor 8 received a pre-installed Odnoklassniki app. In addition to Odnoklassniki, other Mail.ru applications are installed on Honor 8

There is also a news application Mail.ru, which is configured for a specific region.

The Mail.ru mail client supports not only Russian mail, but also other free services.

Conclusion

The Honor 8 is a good smartphone based on a performance platform. It is equipped with a dual camera, high-quality screen. The smartphone is very ergonomic, fits well in the hand and has a stylish design.

However, some simplifications should be noted, for example, the screen supports only 2 touches. However, this is logical, because the device has an affordable cost, and in terms of its characteristics it does not go so far from any Huawei Mate 9.

Honor 8 price

You can buy Honor 8 for 16-19 thousand rubles, depending on the set and storage capacity. We had a device with 64 GB of memory. Its cost is 19 thousand. Rubles.

Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017), a competitor to Honor 8 according to tests, costs 23 thousand rubles. At the same time, it does not have an infrared port, but in general the devices are very similar in characteristics.

HTC U Play can be taken for 15,000 rubles. The smartphone has a similar display, but a plastic body. It has a single 16MP camera. It is based on MediaTek Helio P10 with a frequency of 2 GHz, but has a slightly more modest graphics - Mali-T860 MP2. The battery is also less capacious - 2500 mAh.

They also offer for 15-16 thousand rubles. It has a 5-inch display, a 12-megapixel camera, slightly more modest characteristics of wireless modules, a platform - Qualcomm Snapdragon 623 with a frequency of 2 GHz and 3 GB of RAM. Battery 3020 mAh.

pros:

  • stylish design;
  • efficient processor;
  • high-quality dual camera;
  • good screen;
  • USB Type-C connector;
  • availability of NFC and infrared port.

Minuses:

  • touch display only supports two touches
  • no stereo speaker.

Smartphones under 20 thousand rubles are now more relevant than the rest. And all then, that people do not have much money, but they would like to use something modern and technological. Honor 8 Lite- one of these devices. A functional, nimble, affordable smartphone, but it has one problem. V review I'll tell you which one.

Equipment

Honor devices issued to journalists for testing do not spoil them with full bundles. Therefore, I will just list what you can find in the box when unboxing the Honor 8 Lite:

  • telephone
  • Charger
  • USB cable
  • quick start guide
  • warranty card
  • SIM card extraction tool

There is no wired headset included, so we select something of our own. I do not get tired and will not stop getting tired of recommending headphones from Xiaomi - that's it. Cost 16 bucks, and the pleasure of the sea.

Design

The continuity of the Honor line is visible to the naked eye. The device is very similar to its grandfather in person, and to a contemporary -.

Appearance is calm, without frills, but also without failures. Just a smartphone that you took out of the box, set it up and use it. You don't get much euphoria, but there's nothing to dig into. This is how our hero came out.

Traditionally, there are no touch buttons under the screen. They are part of the interface, when it is necessary (though not always) they hide and stop eating away the useful area of the screen.

There is a plus in this approach - it is convenient to watch videos and play on a smartphone. You calmly hold the device with your hands in a horizontal position and there is no risk of accidentally touching the touch button at the most inopportune moment.

They say glass is installed in the front and back. Which one - the history is silent. Both panels are with 2.5D effect, so the design is streamlined, pleasant, it fits very well in the hand.

The base of the case is plastic. It is quite simple and runs along the frame of the device. It seems to be plastic, phew, but still does not cause any rejection. Do not be upset about this.

Is the glass surface scratched? And how. Therefore, the use of a cover or double-sided film is only encouraged.

But now I will scold the smartphone and I think that it is absolutely justified.

The protective glass of the Honor 8 Lite does not have an oleophobic coating!

It's hard for me to imagine how in 2017 a smartphone, even if relatively inexpensive, might not have such a must have functionality. But what is not, that is not, so the screen is extremely willing to collect fingerprints, dust and other nonsense.

Hence the conclusion - it is necessary to glue the protective glass (film). Firstly, it will save the display from scratches. Secondly, you have nothing to lose. Fortunately, now there are glasses with the very "oleophobic".

The rear fingerprint scanner is not the best place for it, but Huawei / Honor does not practice otherwise. Nevertheless, the index finger always fits neatly on the contact pad, and the scanner itself is very responsive and fast. 10 out of 10 attempts are successful, and the unlocking speed is really good. Even mine looks slow-witted against his background.

At the bottom we have Micro USB (not a tragedy at all!) And symmetrical perforation for the microphone (left) and speaker (right). The speaker is average in quality and volume. At maximum volume, there are no wheezing and other crime. Hooray!

Display

It's worth worrying about this point and not. I'll explain now.

The LTPS panel itself is great. Yes, we have an IPS screen, so a slight fog appears at extreme angles. However, if you regularly look at your smartphones from this angle, be sure to email me in what situations. Really interesting!

I compared the screen of our hero with the display (in the photo below or on the right). The last one we have is actually a flagship and should plug some upstart in the belt at half price.

In fact, it turned out that the Honor 8 Lite display has a large margin of brightness, and with the maximum deviation, the inversion does not take the colors to green.

We continue to praise the display. A resolution of 1920 x 1080 (and no more), coupled with a 5.2-inch diagonal, gives us excellent picture smoothness. 423 ppi is a great indicator for all tasks, except perhaps VR. On the other hand, QHD screens have not yet gotten rid of graininess, and it is for this reason that I consider the current hypostasis of virtual reality technology to be nothing more than self-indulgence. Expensive pampering.

Now is the time to scold the screen.

Due to the lack of an oleophobic coating, a ton of fingerprints accumulate on the glass, so it is very difficult to see anything on the display in the sun.

You need to constantly rub the screen with a cloth or just on your thigh. Constantly!

Only the same protective glass with "oleophobic" will help out. Sold separately, if anything.

A few words about the Kirin 655 processor. This 8-core "gem" was presented in January 2016. He will soon be a year and a half, but he feels quite confident. In fact, it is a great competitor to the hugely popular Qualcomm Snapdragon 625, just developed in-house by Huawei.

The chipset will definitely be relevant all this year. I will not undertake to judge what will happen next.

In games, performance is sufficient. So, in World of Tanks Blitz, you can safely play with medium graphics settings. The frame rate will be in the range of 24 - 35 FPS.

4K video will not scare our hero. Everything is reproduced without problems.

As for the interface and smoothness of work, I can say the following. There are no lags and brakes at all. However, it feels like the smartphone is not reactive. It works quite cheerfully, it is just clear that we are clearly not a flagship. On the other hand, after unlocking the first 10 seconds, it also cannot wake up. And this is a smartphone of a completely different level. Think about it ...

Synthetics clearly shows that our hero has not gone too far from many of the top devices of the last year. This is good.

In terms of hardware, the only frustrating thing is the lack of NFC. In 2017, you buy a phone and are left out of contactless payments with a smartphone. Android Pay came to Russia, they feel great, many people use it, but you don't.

Yes, you can still be patient for a year, but I would like to use this feature now. Okay, not fatal. Go ahead.

Cameras

An 8 megapixel sensor is used as a front camera. Honor for some reason does not disclose data on lens aperture, although the figures are quite standard. "Front camera" has an aperture of f / 2.0, and the main camera and f / 2.2. The optics, of course, are a little dark, but when shooting macro objects, the blur is still not bad.

I liked the quality of the images on the front sensor. Good detail and white balance. Less contrast would be just fine. On the other hand, excessive contrast can be easily removed in the camera settings, so we will not write it down as a minus.

The main camera is 12 megapixels. Phase autofocus is used, the pixel size is 1.25 microns - nothing outstanding, but neither can we say bad.

The quality of the images is average, there are not enough stars from the sky. Photos look good on a smartphone screen, but not so great on a computer.

As for me, two things are missing: detail and more sophisticated algorithms. The white balance almost always suffers: some areas are dark, others overexposed.

HDR mode brings the picture to the level that should be present on the machine. But to name the frames with a real high dynamic range, I somehow do not turn my tongue.

HDR didn't work well

HDR worked well

As soon as the lighting ceases to suffice, the automation stifles the noise and turns the photo into a watercolor painting. If you do not enlarge the image, everything is fine, but if you zoom in, we immediately see the lack of detail. Such is the feature.

For originals of all examples, please go here.

The device can record video in Full HD at 30 frames per second. The videos are normal, no more.

Shell

The device works on the basis of Android 7.0, but it is tightly closed with its own shell EMUI 5.0. And this is never a bad thing.

Yes, some citizens have questions about icon design, interface elements and a suspicious similarity to Apple's iOS.

The rest of the shell is perfectly optimized and very functional.

For example, in the file manager there is a folder "Personal", which can be additionally protected with a password and a fingerprint. The files in it are encrypted and it will definitely not work to get access there from the wife or the villain. Useful thing!

In addition, the system is constantly vigilant and issues recommendations from the category “Do you know that this application is exorbitantly consuming the processor's energy? Can we close it? " Tips are really useful and really working. It is for this that I have loved the Huawei shell for a very long time.

In general, its own launcher is one of the main advantages of any Huawei and Honor.

You always know that you are getting a device that works stably and is perfectly optimized in terms of software. Here's an analogy. The MIUI shell from Xiaomi is also very good, but the first 2-3 months after the release, you are guaranteed to catch a variety of glitches. Then, with updates, the situation improves, but this takes some time. With EMUI, this happens extremely rarely, and then only before the official start of sales, when only journalists manage to use gadgets.

Here's another less software garbage, preinstalled, and it would be very good. Fortunately, most of the advertising and affiliate applications can be removed.

Sound quality

Don't worry about that either. The headphones sound good, at the level of any modern smartphone. Yes, if you need something special, then this is not for Honor, but again, the sound is still very decent.

Of the improvements, there is only one setting - a kind of SWS. It increases the volume, adds bass. In other words, you don't need to use it.

In this case, the glow time of the screen will be about 3 hours. Notifications and all wireless interfaces, including GPS, are activated. If you use the device more intensively (5-6 hours of screen operation), then the smartphone will easily last 1 full working day. In my opinion, an excellent indicator!

Outcome

When they ask me which phone to buy up to 20 thousand rubles, so that with a guarantee to go and buy, I often recommend either Huawei / Honor or Asus. In this price range, finding something better is unlikely to work out. Yes, there is also China with all Xiaomi, Meizu and other brands, but there are many risks for a simple layman, so again we return to the same brands.

In general, my favorite is. For 17 thousand rubles, it is simply impossible to find something more interesting in terms of characteristics in official retail. Has my opinion changed after the Honor 8 Lite test? No, because our today's hero looks weaker against the background of 6X. The latter has two excellent cameras, NFC and no problems with the oleophobic coating. Plus, there is also a metal case. The 8 Lite cannot boast of anything like that.

Let me remind you that the current Honor 8 Lite price- 15 990 rubles. Just a thousand less than the 6X. There is only one advantage on the G8 side - a more compact body. After all, there are a lot of users for whom the iPhone 6 looks like a big beast.

Honor 8 Lite would cost around 13 thousand rubles - yes, one could safely recommend it for purchase. But all the raspberries for our hero are spoiled by a competitor from his own product line. What can you do about it?
